What brand of discs did you use? What speed did you burn at? Did you change the booktype on those +R discs to DVD Rom?

Another thing, not all burners can booktype, what burner do you have and what is it's model number? And another thing, just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's of poor quality. Verbatim disc are usually much cheaper than most of it's shelf neighbors but are usually the best on the shelf.

You might also want to consider setting your target size to 4300 as this will keep you from burning too close to the edge of the media which can cause playback issues.

What is the make/model of your burner and is your firmware up to date, as this can cause burning problems. Also what speed are you burning at, with cheap media keep it to 4x.

then the bottom line is: POOR QUALITY DISCS...change brands/manufacturers and you WILL get better results...

Taiyo Yuden would be my #1 choice of media...in either the DVD+R OR DVD-R format~ :) just make sure they are genuine...then you will be just fine...good luck

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

You said; "recently bought 50 pack of fairly cheap dvd+r" -- in contrast, you'd just answered your own question.

I'm 100% with Doc. here. Genuine Taiyo Yuden DVD+Rs hands down..!! Nothing else beat Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell -- however, that's just my own opinion and perspective.
