i just want to copy my dvd collection to my computer its more or less to back up in case i lose the dvd disc themselves is there a program or software that will allow this?

Hi, welcome.

There are a couple of guides in my signature that I recommend. I use them both and have had great success doing my backups. I don't know how many movies you are talking about putting on your HDD but they take up anywhere from 3 to 9 gigs each. They will take up lots of space quickly.

There are some great free programs for backing up DVD's at this forum and at the sites in my sig.
