What brand of blanks did you use? How about we run them through DVD Identifier to find out the media ID Code for them. Get it here...
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

What write speed did you burn at? As a general rule of thumb 4X burns are fastest acceptable speeds. Some burners handle faster burns just fine, but 4X is good.

Are you multitasking when doing your backup. If so STOP IT. Whenever you do a backup with Shrink, step away from the PC and let it do it's thing.

And just for clarification, you did not burn with Shrink. Shrink has no burn abilities. It is only a transcoder for compressing DVD video files. It does however have the ability to open up Nero, Decrypter, and Copy to DVD to handle those burns. I'm going to guess that you have Nero on your PC since "Enable burn with Nero" is checked by default when you install Shrink.

I'm going to bet that the only thing that you are doing wrong is buying cheap blanks....
Media is very important.
Give us a bit more info and we'll go from there.....

Some stand alone players do not like the -/+R format of some DVD discs. You may need to booktype to DVD-ROM so that the player recognises the disc as a DVD movie.

Just another thought. Of course your burner has to have the bitset ability.

What kind of burner do you have?

If they (the burned copies) identified as DVD-ROM I would think that they should play in a stand alone. Have you tried the disc in another player?

I do not think that you have to purchase DVD-RW's, I use DVD+R's exclusively, although I have not tried DL's yet as they are too expensive for my tastes. (I'm cheap...eeer...frugal). LOL

Do you have the latest firmware update for your burner. Use the last link in my signature block and check and see if you need to update. (Sorry I did not notice the burner in your sig as I didn't read it).

1 you have a very good burner dont get rid of it. 2 try using sony discs, more expensive, but guaranteed to work, check if -r and +r, 3 burn at lowest speed. open with DVD Shrink, then burn with nero(burns automatically.) i have had the same burner for long time and works excellent.

While I haven't used it, lots of folks recommend it at this forum. I think you will be fine with Recode 2.

Did you use a dual layer disk, if you did you should not use Shrink to do this format. If you are using dual layer then use Decrypter in iso read mode when done open the MDS file and use iso write mode to burn it.

You do not need to use Region Free with Shrink, Shrink can do this on its own. Here is a guide showing you the setting.

http://www.digitalfaq.com/dvdguides/dvdcopy/dvdshrink/dvdshrink.htm

Also Shrink is CPU intensive, it use all of the processor, try not to multi-task while doing this.

rugripper,

actually, the shrink program compresses the files so that they can fit on a DVD5 disc. You are using DVD9 discs so you do not need to use shrink at all. Just use decrypter.

Go to the bbmayo web site in my sig and look at the guide that he has produced for burning dual layers. I think that that should help you out.

Cheers.

If you are using DVD Shrink you can compress a Movie DVD9 to fit a DVD5 disk. Otherwise with no compression you cannot fit the movie and then would need a dual layer disk to do your backup. Go to the guides on these programs they will explain.

http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/backup%20with%20Decrypter&Shrink.pdf
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP%20WITH%20SHRINK.pdf
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/Copying%20a%20Dual%20Layer%20DVD%...

You need to open the MDS file in Decrypter because that is the file that stores then information and contains where to put the layer break on the disk.

rugripper, I'm having the same problem. I was able to burn other DVD's but I can't get the Spiderman one to work. I can only play it back on my computer, not in a player. Has anyone figured it out?
