Only ISO Buster can see stuff on DVD...

Hi, I'm a total noob with burning dual layer DVDs, but I've tried three different programs to burn an ISO file onto a blank dual layer DVD, and after the burn is 'successfully' finished, either using DVD Decrypter, Nero or UltraIso, none of them can see anything on the DVD. They all treat the newly burnt DVD like a blank disc, except ISO Buster, which can see the track and its contents.
Am I doing something wrong here? I made ISOs from DVDs and I can mount them and open them no problem. But when I try to write them onto an 8.whatever Gb DVD, I can't read them.
It occurred to me that maybe burning the DVD like a data disc instead of an image burn would be successful - is this true? I only have 10 dual layer DVDs to use, and I can't afford more.

Hi utuseless. Your problem is not uncommon. In order to try to diagnose your problem, we need the following additional information:
The name and model number of your burner (available in the righthand window pane of DVD Decrypter.
The firmware revision number for your burner (after the burner name in DVD Decrypter)
The brand name of the DL media you're using (Verbatim, Ridata, etc), but really the media code from DVD Identifier. DVD Identifier can be downloaded here:

DVD Decrypter does the best job imho since the layers breaks are maintained exactly like the original.
Set mode to ISO Read
Rip the disk to an iso file
Set mode to ISO Write
Burn the iso created above
Simple and sweet as long as everything works! Get us the above info ASAP and either I or one of the other denizens of the forum will try to get it all straightened out.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I checked all the stuff you asked for, though I can't use DVD dentifier because I'm on the net at the public library at the moment. All the information I have is this:

I/O - SPTI interface
I tried switching to any other interface, but each one gives me an error. When I use Smart Ripper to rip a DVD, it always gives me a 'no ASPI drivers' error, so I tried installing ASPI drivers, but it still doesn't make a difference, so I uninstalled them :P
When I tried to burn using Nero, it tells me the blank DVD is a CD-R disc, when it blatantly isn't.
So anyway, I tried a couple more times with DVD Decrypter on the SPTI interface - twice it failed at 52%, ruining two of my ten discs, and the third time it did what it did the very first time, which was burn it in a way that only ISO Buster could see.
I suppose technically I can make ISOs from those burnt discs by extracting the stuff onto my HD using ISO Buster, make an ISO image from that and then mount it onto a virtual drive, But frankly I want to make a copy of a DVD, not mess about with ISO Buster.
I hope this is helpful to find a solution - but until then I'm stuck. Cheers anyway.

When burning DL media it is absolutely necessary to have the latest burner firmware installed. Since you BenQ 1620 is not the newest model I suspect your firmware is not up to date. Go to the link below and update your 1620 firmware to the newest version listed which is B7W9 or G7V9 depending on whether you bought an BenQ OEM model or a rebranded burner (BenQ with someone else's brand name). "Bulk" drives do not have the BenQ name on the drive tray, "Retail" drives do. If you prefer to get your firmware from BenQ itself, I have provided that site as well below.

The second thing is that DL media usually needs to be booktyped as DVD-ROM to be playable by most standalone players. Only +R media can be booktyped so you should use +R DL media. Verbatim is best, but Ritek D01 (sold under brands like Memorex and Ridata) and Ricoh D00 (under the Ridata brand) are OK as well. I would'nt burn the Ritek or Ricoh above 2.4X even if your burners allows doing so. I've found the Verbatims to be burnable at 4X without problems.
To enable the booktyping in DVD Decrypter:
1. Place Decrypter in ISO Write Mode.
2. Right click on the burner name in the Destination menu.
3. Select Change Book Type....
4. Click the BenQ tab
5. In the Change For: menu, select Drive (for DVD +R DL Media)
6. In the New Setting: menu select DVD-ROM.
7. Click OK
8. Repeat for +R and +RW media while you're at it.
Lastly, use DVD Decrypter to do DL backups. It seems to do the best job with the layer break.
In DVD Decrypter, set the Mode to ISO Read and rip an iso file to the hard drive.
Set the Mode to ISO Write, select the MDS file associated with the ripped iso file and burn.

Hi again, I tried everythign you said, and this is what happened:
I right-clicked in DVD Dcrypter like you said, but in the right-click menu there is no such option as Change Book Type. I tried all the sub-menus in case I'd made a mistake, but couldn't find it anywhere. Do I need a newer version maybe? The version I have is DVD Decrypter 3.1.6.0
The Book Type utility won't let me change the blank DVDs I have to DVD-ROM, and it says they're already DVD+R DL. The button is greyed out. Plus the drive settings are DVD-ROM already. Do I maybe need to use different DVDs?
And when I try to erase one of the burnt DVDs, DVD Decrypter says Cannot erase! Unknown / unsupported media.
So I guess I'm stuck...

You can only erase +RW or -RW media, not +R or -R, which is write-once only.
I don't remember Decrypter 3.1.6 and how it differed from 3.5.4. In 3.5.4, you can also use the menus: Tools -> Drive -> Change Book Type.... Otherwise, you need to be in Mode -> ISO Write when you right click on the burner name. Do not the rightclick on the menu pulldown arrow.
The Booktype Utility referenced in other threads is only for Lite-On burners (not BenQ) and changes the settings in the burner's EPROM not the disk. The booktype is bitset on the disk when the disk is burned.
Only +R type media can be booktyped. The type of media is +R DL. Its booktype will be either +R DL or DVD-ROM (if the booktype is changed).

I clicked on the drive name, not the arrow ;)
I didn't use DVD Identifier, but once I burned the disk, ISO Buster was still the only thing that could see it.
I'm just going to ditch these disks and buy the brands you mentioned. Hopefully that'll work :/

Unfortunately DVD Decrypter is no longer available for download at that website either. Good thing I backed it up on cd.
