Sony vcr and dvd burner combo

I have this dvd recorder/ vcr combo that is a sony and it says in the manual that it can not burn from vhs tapes ones that were bought. For example you buy a movie at the video store and you want to now transfer it to a DVD for backup this player will not do that is there a palyer out there that does, it burns vhs tapes that recorded tv shows but not ones that were bought due to encryption is there a player out there that will do this??
