I use DVD Decrypter and I've tried to back up metal gear solid 2 (5.87GB) and GT4 (5.27) onto imation 8.5GB DVD+R DL. Both load past the Playstation 2 screen, then freeze on a black screen.

Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Unless you have a mod chip you are out of luck.
If you do have a mod chip check on the different boot modes
that it offers. I know my DMS4 Pro has different settings
that you can turn on for dual layer games
