I paid for a video converter to convert my burned dvd into something acceptable for my dvd player. But half way through the conversion it always stops so I don't even know if it really works (x video converter). Any help would be appreciated.

Your Question is pretty confuseing...

Why would you want to convert a Burned DVD to something acceptable to your DVD player when a Burned DVD Is Acceptable to your DVD player???

Maybe if you explained to us exactly what you are trying to do then maybe you can get some help as you really don"t need to Buy anything to Convert files and Put them on to DVD....

I am sorry if I am confusing. I mean to say that the dvd is not in a format that my dvd player accepts - so I cannot watch the burned dvd on my tv. When I ask a computer tech about it he said to look for "freeware" and I did and the freeware is giving me trouble. He said this would convert the saved file into something I could burn that would play in my dvd player. And that is where I am having trouble the site that I downloaded from is giving me trouble. X video converter is what it is.

wmv - video clip - hope that is what you mean. And it was suggested that I convert it to MPEG 4? to view on my tv dvd player.

Well you would only convert it to Mpeg-4 if your DVD Player is DivX Certified which most aren"t...You pretty much have to Buy a Player that specificly supports the Mpeg-4/DivX Format....

If you have Just a regular DVD player then you will have to encode it to Mpeg-2 format which is the Format used on regular DVD"s.....

If you really want to do this the easiest way possible then download a program called "VSO DivXToDVD" (Freeware Version) which will convert your WMV File into a "Video_TS" folder and then you just use a Burning program Like "Nero" to Burn the "Video_TS" folder to DVD in "DVD Video" Mode and then Just Put it in your DVD player....

You can find the Freeware version of DivXtoDVD in the Software section of this site...

PS: you should Copy the File off of your DVD to your Hard Drive before trying to convert it.....

Thank you - it was easy and does work. But if I may ask - I only used the trial version - it is a little choppy and the sound is weak and half the screen is taken up with a box the download studion box that put the video clip on my hard drive originally showing prgress of the disc. Will that go away (the box ) and will the sound and choppiness improve if I buy the download?

Maybe I have a ways to go with this yet - but it does work!!

Also as I just watched it - the sound is way behind the picture - maybe just because it is a trial version. At least this is the first break thru in over a week so I am encouraged. Thank you

actually it is not that the sound is so far behind as it is that the picture freezes. The freeze is similar to the last part of the clip so I just thought at a quick glance that it was the end and the sound was behind. Rather about 3 minutes into the dvd the moving picture freezes. I know the hard drive clip is okay and the original non-compatible dvd is fine because I have watched it on my computer many times. Sorry so many posts but I want to give as much information as possible. Thank you

You may be working with the shareware+trial version of VSO. Here's a freeware version that should convert the wmvs into dvd compliant format. You can then burn to dvd with e.g. Nero:

I am sorry but I must be missing something. When I go to the link it seems to be the same as the one suggested before your posting. And that is where in the download process I come across download or buynow. ANd then I ended up with the trial version because I did not want to buy (since I have bought 2 others and not gotten them to work) but this trial version did kind of work at least. PLease explain if I am not understanding. Thank you

I am only managing to use a trial version - it says so across the top of the recording - but it does play on my dvd/tv setup. But 2 minutes into it the video freezes and the sound still goes. It seems to be a continual recording of the first 3 minutes of a 16 minute clip. If I pay for the download will the quality improve?

That is what I did and when it is done installing it reminds me that it is not free but I can "try" it. And so I do and that is when the 'trial banner stays on the screen". I am willing to buy if the quality improves - I am glad it works somewhat but would be disappointed to pay and only have 2 minutes of video work and the quality of sound is off. Any ideas sure welcome.
