I used the Toxic Patcher to patch the game then I burned it onto a Memorex DVD-DL disc before I did it on a Verbatim. I got this weird burn on the Verbatim Disc but the Memorex looked like a normal burn. I used Nero to burn both. Anyways what happens when I put them in the system I just get a black screen. I have a V9 PS2 and a DUO SE mod chip which plays wonderful with every game I've played on it that was backup. Anyways if anyone out there has come across this problem tell me and if you have a solution in how to get this game working please tell me that as well.

Thanks
IBA

The Duo2SE is compatible with DVD-9 games, it should load fine when burned to a normal DVD-R DL. With the price of DL media, those coasters are definitely cause for profanities. Avoid Memorex DVD-R's. I'm not positive that you have to use toxic patcher with DVD-9 compatible modchips. I know the latest Matrix Infinity firmware and DMS 4 Pro automatically support DL backups. Burn at 4x on an 8x DVD-R. With DVD Decrypter. What speed are burning at?

iba5000,
Just a quick question, who said to use the Toxic Patch?

I thought the Toxic patch was for Gran Turismo 4, but I will stand corrected.

Have a read of this thread, it seems to cover what your after.

The DMS 4 and Matrix Infinity have an auto fix for DVD-9 games. Thus DVD-9 games don't need to be patched with Toxic DL patcher using those chips. He has the Duo2SE, which is DVD-9 compatible, but needs to be patched with Toxic to work with DL games. I'm certainly no expert on the Toxic patcher, but I think it is for DVD-9 games in general, not just GT4. I could be wrong. I'd kick that burn speed up to 4x. I asked a pro and that's what he said. Burn at 4x on an 8x DL DVD-R with DVD Decrypter. Wouldn't wanna give you crap advice for something as costly as DL DVD-R's, that's straight from my mod guy.

I did try it w/o the patch and of course it didnt work. Now why would I want to burn it faster if i'm burning it at the slowest speed (2.4x) which I thought ppl say you get the best results.

And I have burned Xenosaga Episode 1, Kessen III, Champions Of Norrath, Gran Turismo 4, The Guy Game, and God Of War w/ the patch at 2.4X and they all came out fine but w/ Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance the patch doesnt work and I dunno why. I have already wasted like 5-7 DVD+R DL discs (Luckily 5 of the 7 I only spent $2.50 per disc which isn't bad the other two were $7). I tried to burn this game with Nero/NTI/DVD Decryptor Burning Programs but none of them work. I also rented the game and downloaded the game too and did the patch thing to both this didn't work either. Now I'm not going to throw away these discs just incase I do get another PS2 and this time modify w/ a DMS4 modchip. I just hope somebody out there can hope to help me out on this because I don't want to spend any more $$$ or waste these 18 DL Discs I still have.

Thanx

Well at least try burning at 4x. You know burning at 2.4x isn't working, what've you got to lose? If you're not even gonna try, then there's not much I can do. Anybody will tell you the same thing. Ditch the Memorex, and use the Verbatim DL's. Burn at 4x with DVD Decrypter.

Well cheap media will do that. It'll work with one game and not work with another. Try updating your burner's firmware. More than anything thought try a Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell, TDK, Sony, Ritek, or Phillips DL DVD-R. Memorex is garbage.

But I used 2 Verbatim DL Discs is the past and they didn't work for MGS2 Sustance and I use Memorex DVD-Rs for the DVD5 games I burn and they all came out just fine and play just as good as TDK discs.

Well it's up to you. Be happy you've had as much success with the DL disks as you have. Most people can't even burn ONE. You seem to know what you're doing. Memorex is crap, but if they work for you, great. Trying a different brand of DL won't definitely solve the problem, but it's a good way to proceed. Again the choice is up to you, there isn't really anything else to be said on the subject.
