My PS2 has started effing up.

It makes a bad clicking noise at certain points during games.

I cleaned the lense with alcohol and a q-tip. It improved the situation slightly. When playing Path Of Neo, before the clean it would barely run, it freezed up like every 5 seconds. After the clean, it pretty much works but the voice-overs are a bit out of time and it *occasionally* freezes up for a second or two, though I still can't get my back-up of Vice City to work at all, it freezes up during the first loading screen. These problems occur on back-ups and originals.

The weird thing is I can play DVD's with absolutely no problem; no bad noises or freezing up at all.

So what could be the drama? Did I not clean the laser sufficiently? I thought I did as I did a pretty damn thorough clean, could it be the laser is just plain worn out? I've also heard windex can work as a good laser cleaner, gets rid of smudges and streaks, should I give that a go?

Oh and BTW, has anyone got a Muppet chip? If so, how's it working out for you?

Thanks guys.

could well be the laser.

that really depends on how old the ps2 is and what type of discs u have been using 4 backups
if the discs have been really crappy 1's
or u have been trying to squeeze games on 2 cd'rs
then there prone to going.
it also could be the laser arm worn out that is usually what the clicking noise is
try and replace that 4 about £2.00
simple and easy job any1 can do it
or it could be the laser and a replacement is about £40 easy job also.
