First of all .. $28.99 seems kinda high for the Sony discs ... I get 'em when they're on sale for $17.99

Yes, the made in Japan Sony discs are top notch .. these will code as either Yuden T03 or Sony D11 .. I've also had excellent results using the Taiwanese Sony discs that also code Sony D11

As far as the Accucore thing goes .. both the Sony made and the Taiyo Yuden made Sony discs carry this mark ... an advertising ploy to be sure ...

Now let's get to the Memorex issue .. tsk tsk tsk .. There are one or two good manufacturers that Memorex uses occasionally .. and several really bad manufacturers that Memorex seems to use too often .. just maybe you won a round in the game of media roulette .. I don't gamble with the media I use and you should stop ,,,

As far as GOOD media goes .. Use Taiyo Yuden (made in Japan Sony, Fuji), made in Taiwan Sony, Verbatim (made in Taiwan), Maxell (made in Japan) and Ritek made media (branded Ritek, RiData, Office Depot) .. I buy from these depending on when I need media and which brand is on sale at any given time ...

Keep burning ..
   Keep learning .

For all the sony plus 1x-8x I have tried: Yuden000-T02 on the japanese spindles and SonyD11 on the taiwanese spindles. Sony is notorious for using the same MID code on their dash format from different countries-Sony08D1.

The only problem I have is they burn too fast on my benq 1620's. I can get 16x out of these!Other than that,I have no trouble with either the yuden or D11 sony media. Both very good, but I always try to get the yudens when they are on sale. I don't pay full retail price. Accucore is just a gimmick.

I have no trouble burning memorex, but the PI/PO scans on them are a lot worse than my yudens and verbatim scans. Some stand alones also pick up the quality difference between those memosux cmags and have playback issues. When you find the memorex on sale, you can get a heck of a lot better quality for same price, and even cheaper with a better brand name like sony/maxell/fuji.

This sounds like you are going to re-rip those backups onto this sony media. This is where the quality of those original backup copies factor in.If they were burned too fast or using crap media or a combination of both, all those little errors add up and may give you crc read errors.Even where those errors are can affect your-rerips.

Even the quality of your burner may factor in.I've had some that gave way too many errors on those yudens so I couldn't even re-rip backups from those drives.

Here's a program, also has a free trial, that you can use to check for all those errors on your memorex backups:
http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

It takes me about 20 mins to run a PI/PO scan.

Edit:

Use dvd decrypter in ISO read to hard drive-note where files go.
Then ISO write, find that MDS file and burn. It's the quickest and best way to re-rip backups that have already been compressed. I do on the fly using nero disc to disc copy. Now that's riskier, but a good way to really see how your older burns are!

My dual drive pc has no problem when I had the benq 1620 in it.It's got more burn options. But the other benq 1620 on my single drive pc did have problems. It would only let me burn at 2.4x or max,so I had to either cancel out the burn then re-do it off my hard drive or burn at 2.4x which causes more pi/po errors than 4x.

The few I have accidentally burned at 16x still turned out great on my stand alones.

Now a benq 1640 along with q-suite won't allow me to overburn.I put the q-suite onto a mobile usb device and going to load it up into that spare, single drive pc seeing as how the latest firmware update on that 1620 will allow the q-suite.

What's your burner's model#?

I don't know about the litey's. I know they also overburn this newer 8x media just like my benq 1620s. I just tried a backup with q-suite on my backup pc and she burned at 16x! UGGH!. It must be the 1640 has the overburn protection on it's firmware. Running the test scan right now to see how 16x looks on dvdinfopro for PIPO scanning.Still looks better than the memosux cmags burned at 4x speed!

You've got dual drives, how's your set up to backup dvd?

I use my litey as the reader and benq as burner on main pc and have 2.4x/4x/8x/12/and 16x writing capabilities on my 1620 using only dvd shrink with auto-burn with nero.

well the good thing is i can usually control my speed through software. i was just wondering why it only does it on some media and not others. buy the way ive been using the dl verbs i got the other day. so far ive used dvddecrypter to read and burn at 2.4x and set book type to dvd rom. it seems like i read somewhere here at ad that u can do the same with dvdclone2. ive founnd the DVD9 selection but i can seem to find thhe book type and speed settings. sorry if i got off the topic but i was just wondering.

The overburn and underburn is because of firmware. This firmware controls those speeds. I couldn't overburn 4x media, but now they are scarce and the 8x and 16x speeds are more common.

Dvd decrypter's ISO mode is one of the best programs for dual layer backups. Very simple! Dvdfab decrypter express is also another great dual layer backup program, but runs about $40.
I'm not sure of dvdclone2.

2.4x is all I can get out those verbatim 2.4x +r DL media. I don't do a whole lot,but excellent quality backups with both DVD Decrypter and dvdfab decrypter express. I think my free trial of dvdfab decrypter express is over.I've still got about 6 of those DL's left so don't need any for a while.

hey saugmon im affraid that my original dvd backups were burned at 16x....damn man...but the thing is that i already watch them and they dont have any errors,no pixelation,or freezes......so what im doing is using nero....i create and image using dvd copy on nero and then i burned them at 4x....probably i learned too late about the speeds do you think that i can burn them succesfully.....i have a fine dvd writer is a lite-on SOHW-1633S....and when i burned them with nero i use slow mode which i think is to reduce all errors...can you please tell me if i you think that my copys are gonna be fine...im asking cause im already making copys to sony dvd+r from my backups and they are fine....what do you think of all this....?
and can you explain me a little bit more about dvdinfopro how to use it and how can i interpretate the errors in case i get them...so i can make sure that my copys are gonna be fine before i burned them...
please.....im sorry if i bother you with my questions...thanks

Christian

As fot the Verbatim DVD+R DL discs ... My BenQ DW1640 happily burns them at 8x with excellent results ...

@ saugmon .. have you enabled your 'Overspeed'? (part of QSuite) .. The default setting is 'Disable' .. The 8x Fuji/Yudens will easily burn at 12x and actually scan better than if you burn 'em at 8x ...

I still have it on default. I've been testing out faster speeds on the yuden000-T02 and the MCC-004 and 8x speed has the best scans so far. I've still have to try 16x on the MCC-004.The real test is when I do an on the fly re-rip of those 12x and 16x backups!

I'm still tinkering with that q-suite on my backup pc with the Benq 1620 and B7-V9 firmware which is recommended for the q-suite.
