Ok, i have a PS2 SLIMELINE. Is there any chance someone can give me an idiots guide on how to use my PS2 to run my backups(games) from my PC?

I.E.: what software will i need
What hardware will i need
and anything else that may be useful to my cause.

I have googled and googled but i have found so many varying answers/ideas that i do not know what to go with!

As you guys are nothing short of brilliant i know you will be able to help me!

Regards,

I must stress that i an a complete newbie to the whole PS2 modding scene and quite literally know nothing. so excuse my ignorance!

I have no clue if you can run PSTwo games from your PS2
but i do not think you can.
As far as playing back up games you will need either a
good modchip installed.
or swap magic and an aftermarket fliptop or slimtool
you can not play back ups on a stock (unmodded) PSTwo
If i am missing what you are needing just clear up the questions for me. There are plenty of tutorials here on wht you need to
mod your PSTwo, how to burn games and what to use to burn them,
what are the best DVD's to use. Start reading the sticky notes
at the top of this and the PS2 back up forum and you will
get a lot of great info about all this.

steimy,

Thank you very much for your prompt response.

You have highlighted a fact, and that fact being, half the time i don't have a clue what im writing :)

However, you did answer my questions and i am now that little bit wiser in the world of PS2 modding.

But i now have another question to ask: (this may take some time)

Ok, i have 2x200GB maxtor SATA HDD and 3x120 WD IDE HDD and a SLIMLINE PS2.

My question is this,

Can i format one of my IDE;s in my PC to the PS2 filesystem then use the ethernet connection to connect the ps2 to the (now ps2 file system formatted) HDD? Thus having (effectivley) a PS2 hdd?

Probably a stupid question that has a real obvious flaw. but hey, i needed to ask it. :)

Regards,

Shadhack,

I too am new to all this and have just had my ps2 slimline modded with an Apple modchip. I got it from Quantronics here in Australia.
www.quantronics.com.au I also had a neofix chip put in which protects the laser from power spikes and what not. I was sick of my son scratching his discs.

I use DVD Decrypter to burn my dvds and Nero to do the cd games. So far I have done 8 of them and they all play fine. Read this here as it will explain how to do it.

Because you have the slimline ps2 you can use a hard drive housed in an external usb case and plug it into the usb port of the ps2.
However you will also need some software like usb extreme which you will find at www.hdadvance.com This allows you to plug the drive into your pc, copy your games across to the drive and then connect up to your ps2 and play them direct from the hdd.

Good luck with it all.

Im not 100% sure on that one but from what I have read NO if you use the hardd rive you dont need to mod your ps2. But dont quote me on it. Someone else should know.

Yes you can get an external hard drive, then get a program
called USB Extreme like below.
http://www.hdadvance.com/index.htm
http://www.usbextreame.co.uk/
HD Advance is for internal HDD and USB Extreme for external
now note that these PS2 hard drive programs (external or internal)
do not have a 100% compatibility rate with games. Meaning not every game you try to put on and run from the HDD will work.
http://forum.hdadvance.com/hd_advance_compatibility.asp
note also that you will not be able to play games online off
the HDD and it does not support DVD9 (dual layer games).
just read through all the info.

You can not use an sata hdd. Cool thing with hdloader is that you can use the cheapest (priced not quality) hard drive out there, and you won't be able to tell a difference.

If you have a chip installed, it will be alot easier to load up hdloader. The other method I know of is using the swap method to load up hdloader. If you have the money, go with a chip. There will be some cases where you won't be able to play a game off the hard drive and you have to wait like a month for a patch to be released... That's where your chip comes in handy. Burn the game and you'll be ready to go.

It is not very hard to get DVD 9 games to work, but you do need to be a little computer savy. There are lots of guides out there so you shouldn't have to worry about not having any help. If there are popular games that are realeased, there will be a patch out sooner or later. Gran Turismo 4, Soul Calibur 2, and God of War are good examples.

As for chips, it depends on what you are into.
-If you don't want to have any problems and have minimal work involved, go with a DMS 4. They have some nice features like auto DVD 9 patching and an integrated browser made especially for HDLoader.
-If you like the feeling of accomplishment when you work on a project, and you see your modded slimline more as a hobby than a toy, I would go with a Matrix Infinity or the like. These chips do a great job, but don't have everything integrated like DMS does. You can still do everything that a DMS can, but through different means. In some ways non DMS chips are better because you can do some neat customizations if you know what you're going.

Sift through the forums and find out what's best for you. The chip retailer and manufacturing sites have some good info to go through too.

I was reading the only way to mod chip a v12 or 13 slimine properly is to use a h20 subxero fix with onboard summ0ne fix. These chips are cheaper than the others you talk of yet they say that without the summ0ne fix installed youll burn out your laser. Also on these slimlines they come with a pvr-802 laser and these are pretty weak. You should install a SPU3100 as soon as you get the 700xx home really, to save yourself problems.I think the 7002+ models are the biggest rip off ive ever seen.$129 for that laser by the way and $55 for the h20 chip unless you buy 5 then they are $24.50 and pretty easy to install with a magnifying screen. As time goes on I think they will make all games not able to play on HDD but then someone will probably find a way around that.So tell me any experiences with h20 subzero chip with summ0ne fix???

Well the fix is just so the laser will not burn out. If you are going to run HDLoader, the laser will never turn on anyways. Unless you are running HDLoader with UDMA0, you won't even be able to install games.

Theres 2 fixes the neo fix and subzero fix by summ0ne.Most people have used and use the neo as the new subzero's only been out since august.I beleive thats why they have problems as my freind has done 5 now with the h20 and not a problem.Although it would be a good idea to replace laser if youve already been playing it for 6 months before you mod it as the laser it comes with is extremelly low grade pvr802.The better laser is spu3100.Also with hdadvance not all games will run from hard disk as youll see in many of these threads and they will begin to make new ones almost impossible to run from HD.I think if people use the matrix infinity they should use the subzero fix not the neo and also replace there laser with spu3100 at same time. Also replace there brushless fan to reduce heat as it wears out quickly for some reason. My freind cut out the top of his slimline console and put a 24vdc fan that had powerfull air flow it dramatically reduced heat but looked ugly.I guess these new throw away pstwo's are still in the experimental stages to me they are no better than a $50 pre paid cell phone they arent meant to be repaired but thrown out.
