Hi all,
A bit of advise if you can?.
I purchased swap magic 3.6 and the magic switch fitted the switch as shown backed up a few games using (NERO)+(DVD DYCRIPTER)+(ALCHAHOL 120%) and DVD-R discs and no matter what program i use i get the same problems.
After its copied it works straight away in the ps2 have a little game then turn it off try and play the game again and i get NOT A VALID PS2 DISC ! how can that be?? if i then copy my new copy the EXCACT SAME THING HAPPENS !! works once and never again.
I bought 5 new games from the USA and they boot up first time everytime with no problems.
Anybody can give me something to try i would be gratefull if this keeps up i might as well buy 2 copies of every game the rate im going through DVD-Rs.
Thanx
Mark

Ok i'll try and help..but need more info. Tell me exactly how you back up the game and with what media brand and speed, what version your ps2 console is etc.. then I can try and gice you solutions to your problems.

eg. DVD Decrypter to get the iso onto harddrive, then burn the mds file using DVD Decrypter in write iso mode using verbatim DVD-R 8x max at 4x.

By the way, the way you described trying to play the game again didn't mention the swap magic disc..you do know that you need to use that every time you play the game right?

That could be a media problem for sure.
more info would surely help
TDK,Philips,Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim & Ritek are some good
media to try.
I prefer 8X DVD-R burned at 4X with DVD Decrypter

Hi sure i know that i need to use the swap disc everytime lol im stupid yeah but not that stupid.I put in swap magic wait for (load program) swap discs back up spins for a second the says "not a valid ps2 disc" The games i backed up were pro evo 5,brian lara international cricket, socom 2,worms 3d and worms 4 that i downloaded.
I have a slim line ps2 (pal)
Ritec 8x DVD-R
I used drd decrypter iso-read the burn image iso-write
i used nero dvd copy
i used alcahol 120% but that said buffer speed was no good
people say use a slower speed but the minimum speed is like x4 right?
if i forgot anything let me know!
Look forward to your reply
thanx mark

Ok, A few things you could try... if you already know about them then sorry.

1) When burning remember to turn off the internet and any other non essential programs etc... they could interfere with the burn process.

2) I personally didn't have much luck with DVD Decrypter burning my games... I use DVD Decrypter to get the iso onto the harddrive then use Nero to burn the image using Nero image burning program... give that a try at 4x.

3)Are you sure they are genuine ritek discs you have.. what's the media code? another thing I've heard is that the ps2 slims sometimes prefer DVD+R media... get a small pack of them from a good brand like verbatim and give them a try.

4) have you had any games work properly? when you put in the backup disc afetr swapmagic does it stay on the swapmagic load screen and come up with an error message or does the ps2 reset? if it resets then my guess would be that there's something wrong with the installation of the magic switch and to check that out.

I'm not trying to offend anyone here and if I've mentioned something you already know then sorry, but you'd be suprised what turns out to be the problem sometimes with questions from newbies... I'm just trying to tick off the most obvious solutions before getting any more complicated.

good luck, and let me know how you get on with it

and to add to Paddymail, sometimes updating your burners
firmware, if one is available, can really help.
i have done hundreds of games with DVD Decrypter
and have no problems.

Yep, sorry i wasn't very clear earlier... I meant that some people have problems with DVD Decrypter, but most are ok with it... i just suggested burning the image with Nero as another option to try is all as you seem to be having trouble burning games.
To be honest I haven't tried burning with DVD Decrypter since I started backing up games... I found out that Nero works best for me and stuck with that.

no problem man, we do what we can.

Paddymail, i wasn't trying to flame at you or nothing.
i was just saying DVD Decrypter is what i used for mine.
I have Nero too but have never really tried doing games with
it. I tried movies and did not get real good results so
i stopped using it all together. I will have to give it a shot
sometime just for kicks.

Yeah, no probs steimy.. I didn't take it wrong, just thought I'd clarify what I omitted from my earlier post... I know that everyone has their own way of doing things and to be honest, what works for one might not neccassarily work for another because of different hardware etc. You giev damn good advice on here though steimy, so keep up the good work...without the good advice on here some people would still be knocking a couple of rocks together and wondering why their games are not working, LOL.

Actually Nero is pretty good for movies in conjunction with DVD Shrink. With shrink When I do a movie it takes around 15 - 50 mins from start to finish depending on what the compression is etc..and the results are brilliant, can't tell the difference between the original and copy. Most of the dvd's I've done have taken on average about 20 - 25 mins, it's only when you're trying to get around 4 hours onto disc that it takes 50 mins... you know the extended versions of lord of the rings dvd's that come on 2 discs for each film?.. I got both discs onto one DVD-5 and cut them together too.
The added bonus is that Nero has a burn video files program on it too.. so if the VOB files are small enough to fit onto a DVD5 you can just use that program to put those files onto disc as it creates the video_ts and sound_ts folders for you... works pretty good, have used that sometimes when DVD Shrink didn't wanna work with me.

That stuff about the rocks wasn't directed at you by the way, you had a genuine problem that you needed help with.... I was referring more to people who haven't even got a modchip or a fliptop etc with swapmagic and thne come on here saying that their backups aren't working, LOL.

Glad yours worked for you

"without the good advice on here some people would still be knocking a couple of rocks together and wondering why their games are not working"

ahahahahehehehehahahahahehehhehehahahahaah!
like that one, but watch out. you have seen the Geico commercials right? you may piss off a few cavemen.

I may have to give Nero another chance. I was using DVD Shrink and Nero combo and just not getting realy good results.
So i switched to AnyDVD and CloneDVD2, that combo works great but of
course is not free, well unless you know how to get stuff like that
for free (wink..wink)

Glad you liked the analogy ;)
I Haven't seen those commercials.. but am in the UK.

I find Nero quite good for burning all kinds of things.. especially the movies with DVD Shrink. The only thing I can't do is rebuild with the udf/iso with Nero burning rom as I only have the express version... but that's no biggy really as I use the cd dvd gen/dos method and always get good results that way, then burn the .iso with Nero image burning program.
I did that for marvel nemesis:rise of the imperfects... don't know if it needed a rebuild or not, but I couldn't get it to work flawlessly with straight copy... so rebuilt it and voila.. the iso is only about 2.7Gbs now and works great.
I keep thinking I might get the full Nero burning rom version...but figure if it ain't broke don't fix it, LOL.

PM me if you want any help with shrink by the way.. i'm no expert, but I do spend a lot of time messing with it to see what it can do.
