Has anyone had luck backing up alias season 4, if so, what did you do, i can't get it to work in shrink, decrypter or dvdfab, both with and without anydvd running in the background.

Nothing special encryption wise on any of the alias discs. Try cleaning the disc. DVD Shrink and then DVD Decrypter should do it.

Dvd Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue

Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)
**
I have tried cleaning the disc a few times, but it is a brand new copy of alias season 4 disk 1
will try with decoder and post log as asked to.

I am taking a wild guess, but it seems like you will not need VTS_02 any ways (looks like a bonus feature or advert). Just have Decrypter ignore the read errors and after it finishes, try VOB Blanker and blank out VTS_02_1.VOB.
You can also try ripping everything but this VOB and then try and rip it separately. Sometimes stupid things like that work.
Odds are that it is something with the disc like a bad pressing or something.

Are there any more reading errors after the first VTS? (If you abort the ripping with the faulty one and continue the rip)
WTF... You cant use any HTML tags in here...

You might also try ripping with DVDFab - sometimes this will rip hard to read areas more effectively.

Jaguargod - any idea where i could get a copy of VOB blanker, can't find it here and not sure where else to look.
cynthia - ya, if i tell decrypter to skip it, it moves on and finishes the disk, however when i go into shrink and try and open it, i get an error telling me it can't find the file i skiped.

9mmrugger1 - thanks for the advice but i tried dvdfab in my initial try before asking here, i am trying disc 2 of the series right now and seems to be working fine, i am thinking jaguargod was right about it being a bad production disc. so now i have to get around that.
thanks again
