I've tried looking through the existing threads for an answer to this, yet I'm getting a headache from reading through some of the threads and have still yet to encounter something that is precisely in line with my own situation. As such... here goes.
I've never really felt the need to bother with a cheat device before, always having preferred to romp through my games the hard way and take my time. However, I've started to replay some older RPGs in order to refresh my memory before playing later sequels, and I'm wanting a way to hurry the process along and eliminate the tediousness of earning money and such.
Anyway, to this end, I obtained a backup of an Action Replay MAX EVO from a friend. He told me all I needed was a memory card to save codes to and some Swap Magic or a modchip and I would be set. Indeed, he has proven correct, as I was able to get this backup of the AR to work and actually implement the chosen codes in my game of choice after a bit of struggle. All of the titles I've gotten to work were legitimate, store-bought copies.
This brings me to the point of my post. He also claims that I should be able to use the Swap Magic discs to boot the AR, choose the codes for my game of choice therein, use the Swap Magic disc again instead of the desired game, and then finally boot the backup copy of the desired game once Swap Magic has loaded again. I've been trying this for hours, using all sorts of different combinations, and I simply cannot meet with any success here. Could someone please tell me if there is a way to successfully pull this awkward chain off, or at least verify as -fact- that it cannot be done, ever or at all? Thank you in advance, and I apologize for the length of this post.
