i have just started to look into burning and backing up movies on to DVD+R 8.5GB discs, i have burnt movies before on to DVD-R, and i know my burner can burn all three types,What are the best value DVD-R's 8.5GB to buy and where is the cheapest place to purchase these from as they are an expensive form of media?

First, I personally would not recommend the purchase of -R9s because they can't be booktyped as DVD-ROM which is what some players desire for playback. I would stick to +R9 DL. The best is Verbatim imo. There are Ritek D01 DL media about as well sold under the Memorex and Ridata labels. The Verbatims will burn up to 6X although I wouldn't recommend doing so. I've been burning at 4x with a NEC 3540 (1.03) with no problems. I haven't tried any Traxdata media. If you're in the U.S. Verbatims can be had for $30 per 10-pack at www.newegg.com and for $20 on sale at various retailers from time to time. This week Office Max has them for $20. Best Buy recently has lowered their price to $35 per 10-pack.

@elcappo,do the movies you are burning exceed the 4.3g? if they are just over have you thought of using DVD Shrink which is a free prog its worth looking at and may save you $$$$$, shrinks so user friendly and you can edit etc.

Forgot to mention, if you are going to buy in a retail store, and if you're going for a brand like $ony, check on the label to make sure it says "Made in Japan". You'd be surprised to see how many "Made in Taiwan" disks are out there.

Verbatim DL i think it's 10 for $20 pretty dawn good deal.

i might be askin something rhetorical, but im not gonna lose anything if i ask (well maybe some pride :P)...
can a normal dvd burner somehow burn a double layered disk, or is a double layer burner required?

they sell the orginal TY's and are awesome DVD media, some members claim they are the best and so far they are excellent, there are others medias other members feel are better.
with the TY's 100+ burns with no coasters and they are cheap.
happy burning!
there is always a better solution
