well, unless u are speaking of the Taiyo Yuden produced Verbs that my buddy creaky can get over in the UK, then you should be ok~ HOWEVER, if you are in the states, then your story is WAYYYYYYYYY off since the Verbatim's over here are NOT MADE IN JAPAN~ :) most will be MADE IN TAIWAN if they are branded Verbatims, some made in singapore (for the DVD+R DL flavor)...

based on what you told me, this COULD possibly be FAKE TYs IF they are in fact, MADE IN JAPAN~ what is the media ID coding on them? should be MCC coded IF they are verbatims (from taiwan)...or if you got them over in the UK, they will be TYG02 Taiyo Yuden made in japan, if it's neither of these...either you got your media's "place of origin" confused OR you got yourself some fake discs that are in fact, NOT made in japan~ :)

lemme know and i will verify for you...it COULD be your standalone acting up...but, that is the least of your worries in the long run...what rated speed and format did you use? if it's DVD+R format, might want to see if your drive will enable booktyping (changing DVD+R to dvd-rom format) for better compatibility issues...need more ACCURATE info to go on...

docTY~

Hi kivory666
The above 'skip' was with my verbs made in Japan coded at tygo2 on -r bought from uk (SVP).I also have +r verbs made in Taiwan code out at mcc03 booktyped as dvd rom.Only noticed a skip on the -r tbh but like i say when i 'rewind' to replicate the skip it doesnt do it. Also i did a scan with both the verb -r tyo2 and the verbs +r mcc03 and the scans are slightly better with the -r..is this normal?
Dunno if im reading the right inner hub code but its GG000123?

well, those are definitely the TY Verbs that creaky has from the UK...from svp~ :) from what i hear, you got yourself some GOOD STUFF right there~ :) yes, that hub coding DOES check out...8x DVD-R TY coding will be GG000xxx (where xxx is the batch number)

so, ur saying that the TY Verbs (TYG02s) scan BETTER than the MCC003 coded Verbatims that are made in taiwan? the difference on MINE, between the Taiyo Yuden TYG02s and the 8x DVD+R MCC003 is marginal at best~ :) the difference is VERY slight, both are great media~
so, yes, it is "normal" :)

so basically, when you "try", you can't replicate the "skip" again if you rewind...it just plays back perfectly? that might just be some dust/fingerprint that your standalone dvd player seems to hit while reading the disc...or when you scan you discs, do you see errors in the scan for that "skipped" disc? are you burning both the DVD-R and DVD+R 8x rated medias @4x or have you tried @8x? i personally burn mine @8x on either my TYs or my MCC verbs~

i think perhaps ur standalone player's laser/lens could use a good cleaning...that SHOULD resolve your skip issue, it seems to me from what you've told me it's not a problem with your discs...the finger DOES point to your standalone player me thinks.. :)

docTY~

hi, bit late doing my rounds today, just playing catchup...
(creaky closes his eyes while typing so he doesn't see 'TYG02' and 'svp' then hits the credit card!, can't move for ttubs of dvd's as it is)

in addition to my good buddy's replies there, it might be worth having a peek at your Nero settings, just in case...

...let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar.

You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"

no worries.

as to the lens cleaner, nope, i never got around to buying one, did mean to many
years ago but forgot. my trusty Sony burner started giving me skipping burns
recently and i considered getting a cleaner but as it was a writer i would still never
have trusted the burner again anyway. it's definitely worth getting a cleaner for a
standalone or dvd-rom/cd-rom reader drive. just my five pence..

i won't recommend pc world or maplin as they're probably 3times the price of
anywhere else. maybe try argos, actually the best place is probably woolworths - i
bet they do them. or svp might do them, if so you could maybe order one from
there when you order more of those sexy Verb TYG02's.

as for the CMC, my woodburner is on at the moment, but i wouldn't insult it with
those discs :O

hehehe :) not much more i can add..but, yeah, since i'm here in the U.S. i don't know the local stores over there in the UK for a good lens cleaner system~ :)

seems like your "friend" that "knows what he's doing" gave you some very POOR advice...so much for "knowing what he's doing" LOL~ :) CMC MAG discs are "utter rubbish" as creaky says, seriously they ARE, don't matter WHERE you are in the world~! LOL

stick w/ the TYG02s as your Nero log looks very nice, minus the CMC MAGs that creaky pointed out...everything else looks to be in tip-top shape~

good luck~
