ah today i was playing battlefront 2(burnt) on my ps2 and then i started to hear the music was kind of lagging and repeating it self so i thought i should restart my ps2 and i did then when i tried to play another game nothing happens. first it takes some time for the ps2 screen to come up (the one with the blue background and the squares) then nothing happens at the screen with the broswer and other option the only thing that happens is that the blue circles move around. i tried burnt games and original games and the same thing happens and when i go to the browser i get some disk read error.. this just happened today and im wondering if anyone knows how i can fix this myself hope someone can help.yes i have a modchip its a mini apple my ps2 is version 10 or i think its 9 forgot

you will need to know both. I have not seen lasers that cheap before?
Most i have seen were around $50 online.
I would try reading a guide and adjusting and cleaning it before
you run out and buy a new one.

On the version 9 and version 10 ps2s, the laser easily goes bad when reading burned media from what I understand. There is a way to prevent this, its called the Romeo mod, this basically limits the voltage to the laser to prolong the life of it. It requires you to solder one wire. Here is a helpful link:

http://www.cyber-mag.com/station/laserV9.htm read the section titled: "The V9/10 Syndrome as we know it..."

Bad media will probably make this worse. I reccomend Taiyo Yuden DVD-Rs. If you can find genuine ones, its the best media you can buy. I get mine from www.rima.com their always genuine, nicely priced and they ship very fast.

v9-ps2 ****romeo mod, dms4 ezi pro, toxicOS***
