hey guys im affraid that my original dvd backups were burned at 16x....damn...but the thing is that i already watch them and they dont have any errors,no pixelation,or freezes......so what im doing is using nero....i create and image using dvd copy on nero and then i burned them at 4x....probably i learned too late about the speeds do you think that i can burn them succesfully.....i have a fine dvd writer is a lite-on SOHW-1633S....and when i burned them with nero i use slow mode which i think is to reduce all errors...can you please tell me if i you think that my copys are gonna be fine...im asking cause im already making copys to sony dvd+r from my backups and they are fine....what do you think of all this....?
and can you explain me a little bit more about dvdinfopro how to use it and how can i interpretate the errors in case i get them...so i can make sure that my copys are gonna be fine before i burned them...
please.....im sorry if i bother you with my questions...thanks

I am a bit confused as to what the problem is, but here's my two cents. First, you say you've made backups at 16x and they play fine. Well, that's good. Now you're backing up the backups (I assume), and you're burning at 4x and wondering if it will work? Is your concern that you're trying to burn the copy at a different speed than 16x? If so, not to worry. If you can rip the copy back to your hard drive successfully (regardless of what speed it was created at) then you can copy it. What speed you can copy that image at depends, obviously, on your burner, media, and software. I guess I'm not sure what your question is, since whether or not the "copies will be fine" is a question you've already dealt with in making the intial backups in the first place (i.e., make some, test them, see what you end up with).

Here's one tip, however. If you're simply making copies of single-layer backups you already have, use DVD Decrypter.

Perhaps someone else can handle the DVDInfoPro question, since I only use it to change book-typing on my NEC.

the thing is that someone told me that memorex is a crapy media..and my dvd backups are stored in memorex DVD+R media and they were burned at 16x but like i told you before i already watch them and i dont have any problems(freezes, pixelation or whatever problem)...so im trying to protect my investment by burning all my backups on good media, like sony DVD+R made in japan.....at least thats what i see on this forum taiko and sony are prefered by everyone in here...so
thats what i want to know....if my dvd backups are fine can i burn them on a better DVD+R media and have the same quality....and why do you recommend me DVD Decrypter to copy my dvd backups instead of Nero...thanks for everything

OK, I get you now. Well, if you want to have the absolute best chance of having your backups both last and be compatible with many players then perhaps "rebacking" them up is a good idea. On the other hand, it seems like you have perfectly functional backups now, despite the fact that Memorex media do, as a rule, suck. Personally I wouldn't bother if what you have already works.

As for Decrypter, I only advise that since in the course of doing a couple of thousand backups I've had better success--albeit slightly so--burning in ISO mode with Decrypter as opposed to Nero using the VIDEO_TS folder. But, as I say, it's a slight difference, as I've had very good success with Nero, too.

thanks man and i have 1 last question....do you think that my backups can get worse with the course of time....i mean for
example if i take care of my memorex backups (no light,no heat, cool place, no dust and on a big folder)do you think that memorex media will last a long time....or should i burn them on good media so they can last longer.....or if they are now perfectly working are they gonna stay this way a long time or what...
thanks in advance really man you are helping me a lot

All I can tell you is what I do. The vast majority of my discs are TY or Verbatim, but I do have several batches of lousy CMC and other discs that I burned some time ago, but which play just fine (on my equipment, anyway). What the lifespan will be of these discs is anyone's guess, but I figure if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Do you have any software that came with your burner to check for errors? I have a Plextor, and it comes with tools to check for PI/PO errors, which is what you really care about. Name brands are fine, but the ultimate test of a disc's reliability is the PI/PO test. I have had decent burns with some CMC Mag media, so it's senseless to re-burn them just because it doesn't have a name brand label. Nero has some tests too in Nero CD-DVD Speed. Since you have a Lite-On, I think you can use this free software and read all about testing: http://www.k-probe.com/

If those backups that were burned at 16x are ok,then you're alright. You said you had all your backups on memorex. If you want to really test them to see how the quality of those 16x burns are and you have dual dvd drives, try on the fly with nero's copy disc feature and see if it will burn them! If it passes that test, then you've got some quality backups in the 16x speed.

Some of the 8x speed media has better scans when it is burned at 8x/12x rather than the 2.4x and 4x:which I am finding out.Fewer errors.

What's the exact MID code of those memorex?

If you changed spindle sizes/formats/speeds/ or different stores for all those memorex, then likely you'll have more than 1 MID code on them.
