I've been reading the threads and it sounds like besides needing a DVD-RW to burn the discs and the software (Nero/DVD Decrypter) - which I have both.

So, I would just need to get swap magic and flip top or swap magic and slim tool. How do you know which one to get ??

I'm looking on a website mentioned in earlier threads and found both of these, I just don't know which one to get. I'm guessing flip top as I have the top loading slim PS2... If you couldn't tell - I'm a newbie.

I've been backing up DVD movies for a while and want to secure copies of my PS2 games now.....before the kids destroy them too.

Thanks much,
Craig

You need to figure out the version of you PS2 first off. Then you can find a matching set of swap magic for you PS2. Also, DVD+RW's tend to not be the best to burn PS2 games. Some consoles won't even read them period. Get yourself some good media, since PS2's also tend to be picky.

As far as tool or flip top goes, I personally have a slide card, but not for the slim line. I think the flip top would be better personally, but I was being cheap at the time.

Itzamna 36,

Thank you for the info. Well, I'm stumped now. I looked for the version and don't see it on the list of 1-10 versions listed on modchipnow.com.(edentification methods). Mine has a model # SCPH-70012 and a serial # that starts with FS ?? neither of these are even listed on the website....

I usually use brand name DVD-+RAM (either or + or - ) for my movies. I meant that I have a DVD burner on my PC. What do you recommend for the PS2 backup's ??

As far as the tool or slide card ?? - I'm guessing that the slide card is for the front load type PS2 ?? or did the flip top version come out after the slide tool ?? or is it just a more expensive alternative. I'm also cheap as far as this stuff goes - I'm using all freeware to backup my DVD's + the software that came with my burner, but looks like I'll have to buy something to do this.... I was reading up on the HD loader and another one (from the above mentioned website that seems to be better) too and have a couple of HDD's laying around, but it said that you need to have the network adapter (which is standard with the slimline PS2), do I have to buy into a network for this to work or something or just use the adapter to transfer the data to/from the HDD (I'm thinking the latter). Thanks for any help with the rest of my questions....

You will need Slim Tools/Magic Switch or a Fliptop for a version 12 PS2(the slime ones are ver 12)

DVD-Rs work best in the PS2,but i also heard that some newer PS2s like DVD+Rs.

Yes, as you have a ps2 slim and have a built in network port, then you can't use a network adapter as you don't have the connection to fit it...the network adapter is for the older model ps2's. To use a hard drive on a slim ps2 you would have to use usb extreme and a harddrive with usb or a harddrive enclosure with usb connectors... and it won't work with all games by the way. here's some info on it for you.

Your best option would be to get the slimtools+swapmagic3.6 or an aftermarket fliptop+swapmagic 3.6 or to get the modchip installed.

If you let us know where you live, as in USA or Europe or whatever then we can suggest some places to get these things from.
