I second that. First, I've had good experience with SMS myself, and second, if docTY says it is so, you should believe it to be so.

I am new to this, but don't those prices seem really low? That is by far cheaper than any other price I have seen for TYs.

those prices are just "competitive", when Staples had their Fujifilm 8x DVD-R on sale for just shy of $10 U.S. for 30 pack it was even cheaper than THIS deal here from SMS~(MADE IN JAPAN ON THE LABEL ONLY for the Fuji's to be TYs)! those are the same ones you are getting there in your link, only thing different is the top w/ FUJI branding from Staples and from supermediastore, there is NO branding on it~ :) TYG02 coded media that are made by Taiyo Yuden in Japan~ :)

so, it depends sometimes, but, naturally, SMS will ALWAYS have plenty in stock, while locally, you will have to sift and go through maybe DOZENS of spindles to FIND the MIJ (Made in Japan) ones on the wrapper, IF there are even ANY left~!

...this is a good deal to save urself the headache of sorting thru spindle after spindle in the stores to locate the ones that are the Taiyo Yudens :) but, you will have to incur the cost of shipping which usually makes it a "not so spectacular sale" price, but decent price nevertheless...also, depends on where you live, i happen to live in CA, so i get charged for TAX (8.75%) on top of SHIPPING costs, i do get them practically overnight, but, that's besides the point...i end up paying MORE than most people that are out of state...SMS is located here in the City Of Industry, about 30 min. drive from where i live in Los Angeles :) if they only had a "in-store/in-warehouse pickup" option, i would be ALL over it like white on rice~

anyways, it's legit...SMS has NEVER sent me Fake TYs before and i've ordered THOUSANDS (probably close to 4000+) of pieces within the last 5 years or so...so far, i haven't had a need to do a RMA (return merchandise authorization), so, i haven't had any problems with them...

good luck and go for it, you will DEFINITELY NOT be disappointed with those TYG02s (8x dvd-r)...very good quality media at a decent price~

docTY~

Amen to that brother...spent 45 minutes in Office Depot going through spindles, finally got the only spindle of Maxell (MIJ) full hub inkjet printable (in town I suspect) that they had.

@ locoeng

it CAN be such a chore to wade thru dozens of spindles, i found myself doing the same thing when Best Buy had their sale on Fuji earlier this year...found 1 spindle after clearing the entire shelf...i actually just sat down, made myself a little spot and "did what i did"...people were looking at me all suspicious, but i didn't care...had to find the MIJ or else i would walk out empty handed that day~ :)

Hey Doc,
I did the same thing at BB last time (squatted down and went thru every spindle), but didn't find a single fuji MIJ in a stack of dozens. I bought some laserscribe Verb cds from supermedia and i am satisfied. Fast shipping. Finding Tys locally at that price is a chore, but worth it, if you can find a good supply. The fuji mit code out as

which are ok, but not the same as a MIJ Ty, at least in my opinion. If you buy something locally, you eliminate the shipping cost, but every state in the US will charge you state tax on top of local, county, and anything else they can stick you with. $17.99 per 50 is about the best price i have been able to find genuine Tys locally. And its a hit or miss situation when you go out Ty hunting.

@ kivory666

With the Fuji's on sale at best buy last week, the ones with the blue paper thing on top were made in a Japan and the others were not. Also you could tell the difference because the Japans have a straight edge around the top and the taiwans are rounded on top. That cuts down on looking time because all you have to do is look at that...i think that is the same with other brands too, the case is different depending on where they are made.

@jasper

yes, naturally Taiyo Yuden made cakeboxes are very different than the other ones...TY cakeboxes are perfectly smooth all around, with only the bottom (base) being a little "fatter", this has been true AT LEAST LOCALLY for me regarding the Fujifilm brand...it's not the same with the Sony branded ones here~ :)

besides, i have enough 8x DVD+R TY to last most people a lifetime so i haven't even been paying attention to the "sales" on fuji/sony as of late~ :) but, good point in mentioning what you find for OTHERS to find them easily, thanks~ :)

@saugmon

I was really just looking for any full hubs from anyone as long as they were made in japan. They had three or four different sections of blank media...when I finally found the inkjet printables all I saw was Memorex and almost puked on the salesmans shoes. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw the Maxell's out of the corner of my eye, picked em up and gave a couple of turns until I saw MIJ and made my purchase. They only had one other spindle of 50 for $45 so I wasn't trying to get the last one. I'm gonna try the silver TY's but I can't tell if they are full hub, do you know?

I don't think they make full hub silver ink jet printables yet. I'd like to give those silvers a shot after seeing all of alky's sigs of all his.

I can pick up 25 packs of maxell full hubs for $15 at wal-mart.These are all made in taiwan.I'm about empty on them.
