dmre85 play list freezes recorder

when i go into playlist the machine freezes. the last title used to be titled create, but now it has a -x- in the box and "new" instead of "create" in the title area.
recorders still works if i record from titles, just the play list is malfunctioning.
i have shut the unit of numerous times, disconnected power, and no go. in the past i had it freeze up once and when i disconnected it came back ok.
any suggestions?
