Well it finally happened. My Modded V1 PS2 is now starting to show signs that it might be time to have it "go live away on a farm". After 5 years I am now getting the dreaded DRE's more and more frequently and some games just wont load up at all. So my question is how good are the new slim ones? And if there are any issues with them, what might they be? I have a like some 90+ games and obviously dont want to give up on this system but just need to know if i should buy the slim or a refurbished bulky one. I have bought refurbished things before and never had any luck with them.

So yea thanks in advance.

Ok thanks. Also does anyone know how many different versions of the slim ones there are in the U.S. I wanna do a case mod again but need to know if there are any differences in the versions (if any) that might make that difficult.

I think there are 3 versions available.. I know for sure that there are 2 different releases. There is a problem with the first ones that were released because the would burn out the laser. LITERALLY. The older you get, the better.

I'm real big on saving money, so if i were you... I would try cleaning my laser on your old PS2 before spending money on a new one. If it can still pick up games every now and then, the laser is still good. Seach for PS2 laser clean or something and you will find tons of guides on AD.

yea ive already cleaned the laser a lot of times already. and i used compressed air for dust and all that junk. ive kept it in really good condition for the past 5 years, so i think that it just might be age now.

but are you saying that the first model slims' lasers literally burnt out or the newer model slims?

get a V13 and you will not have problems
they have fixed the laser isues that they had with the earlier
releases
the older chunk V7 is probably one of the best they made
and as far as cleaning and adjusting the laser
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/
go to tutorial page, last icon on right at top
go to link for guide to fixing your PS2
it will get you to a page that will give you instructions
or if you like it enough just spend the money and get a new laser installed, although with shipping and everything it will cost about as much as a new one. or better yet save your money and go to
http://teammodders.com/ and buy a premodded system with DMS4 Pro chip
they have both slim (V13), and used premodded V7's
not sure if the slim has case mods other than an aftermarket flip top
but you can buy skins for them, as you will see my slim if you scroll
down on the very first page i have pictures of mine
with an alien skin.
