Ok, I know it doesn't come out til next week but as in the Bewitched thread I have an advanced copy, and am having trouble...
I have used dvddecrypter and the first time I decrypted it it had 75 files and I got this message when I tried to use dvdshrink:
"Dvd Shrink has encountered and error and cannot continue.
Invalid data in file "C:MADAGASCAR\VIDEO_TS.\VTS_08_1.VOB
Overlapped I/O is in progress"
I tried to decrypt it again with DVD dycrypter and it had 115 files this time and I got the same message.
I have DVD4FREE running in the background as well...any ideas?

Try it without anything in the background first. If Decrypter fails on File mode,go into IFO mode.

DVD Decrypter will automatically select the main movie. Odds are that it is VTS_08 since that is where you are getting the Error. What you need to do is uncheck all the cells in Chapter 1 that belong to VOB ID 1. Usually that will only leave the last 2 cells of the first chapter. Rip the main movie.

Then rip the rest of the disc in File mode.

Next launch IFOEdit. Load VTS_08_0.IFO (or which ever one the main movie is) and then select "Vob Extra=>Strip Streams". Set the destination (a new folder within the VIDEO_TS folder) and click OK. Then select the streams you want to keep. If you want, you can keep them all. Press OK and after 10 Minutes, you will have a new VTS_08.

Now drag and drop the new files into the VIDEO_TS folder (keep a backup of the origanal VIDEO_TS.IFO). Afer that, launch IFOEdit again and load VIDEO_TS.IFO and press "Get VTS Sectors". Now try to process it through DVD Shrink.

If it works, you can either Shrink or blank out the Previews with VobBlanker and I bet there are at least 20 of them.

All you need to do is use AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2.

Download the software from slysoft.com You wil have 21 days before it expires.

Pazzini, this is a pre-release. There is a chance that AnyDVD will need an update before it can handle this movie. Can anyone confirm that this movie is rippable with AnyDVD without problems?

Hooligan7,

I was wondering, would you like my guide on Ripping Sony ARccOS movies? It has quite a bit of info including getting rid of the FBI Warnings, getting rid of the Full Screen Version on wide/full movies, Changing the first play to jump to the main menu, etc...

I used Resident Evil: Apocalypse (because it had both wide and full) and a Very Old Version of DVD Decrypter (3.1.0.0) that did not support Sony ARccOS protection. Following the guide is not as easy as using AnyDVD or DVDFab, but it should work for every movie released and those not yet released. I also tested the method using Bewitched and it worked great. Both movies were done with 100% compression (all features included) and I assume Madagascar will be the same since the movie is like 80 minutes long.

I tried to make this guide as easy as possible and included lots of screen shots.

Jag I would love your guide! I am having so many probs with new dvds. And sicne my trial period expired a LONG time ago with AnyDVD I am out of luck there.
I tried using DVDFAB and it would get to file 8 and freeze up...everything.
Any advice or guides would be great.

I posted a Thread in DVDR for advanced users with the guide. This way I can just send links rather than e-mailing everyone:

where is it that i am supposed to do that?
I want the entire dvd, not just the movie.

Last week when I tried to backup Madagascar on my XCopy, I faced the same problem. The program failed to read the same title 8.01. At first I thought it's a drive problem & I used my other 3 DVDRW to read & the same problem occurs. This is the first time that I can't backup using XCopy 4.038 - I backup more than a hundred movies before & that was before I get to know this website & about DVD Decrypter & DVD Shrink.

Start the edit on about chapter 3 and scan back to very first of the movie. If you try to do it at the very 1st chapter(black screen)it will lock up.That will only get you the main movie though.

For those of you that tried this, and successfully got the burn, when you hit "open files" and select Madagascar from from the list was yours broken into:
assets
AUDIO_TS
js
VIDEO_TS
This is the first time I have seen this and didn't know if when I re-dL'ed DVD Shrink it messed up my settings.
I feel stupid for buying AnyDVD and it not working for the dvd I bought it for :P

It's simple you buy it from playusa.com and then copy the movie with AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2. It's that simple

I wish I had this movie, then I could have made a guide specific for this movie...

Hooligan, I will send you a PM with my e-mail. Send me the IFOs for the movie and i will look at them. There is a chance I can figure out what is corrupt just by looking at the IFOs. Also it will help if you tell me which VTS has what in it. Do it like this:

VTS_01 - preview
VTS_02 - extra feature
VTS_03 - Movie

and so on.

I also have another idea. Rip using DVD Decrypter. Use IFO mode or File mode, whichever you are more comfortable with. Then set it up so that it tells you when there is an error, i.e. you do NOT want it to ignore read errors.

Now in the file splitting options make it split by Cell ID. Now when the program pops up with a read error, make it skip the file. What this will do is tell you exactly which Cells are corrupt. Then look at the cells it did rip. Play them in Media Player Classic. If they are actually part of the movie, included them when you rip and follow the guide I posted.

However, do not be fooled by cells that have video, but are skipped with cell commands. Usually there will be some cells that have small random clips that are also in the actual movie. In Bewitched for example, there were small clips that contained video from the Red Wagon logo and the Lady Liberty Logo. Also, there were parts of the opening credits, but these were skipped by the DVD Player and found in random cells before Cell 23. The actual red wagon logo and Lady Liberty were contained in Cell 23 of chapter 1 and the opening credits began in Cell 24 of Chapter 1.

Figuring out which of these are real or not will only work when playing back the actual real cell they belong to and seeing that they are also present there. However, it can be safe to assume that Sony will not split up part of a movie, meaning have 3 seconds in cell 2 then the next 8 seconds in cell 11 and so on. They will usually dedicate an entire chapter to a cell. Any Chapters with more than 1 cell should be marked as suspect for ARccOS.

I am still wating for the IFO files from Hooligan7, so if anyone wants to get them to me to minimize the waiting time, let me know. I will post the suspected garbage cells in this thread.

I try to copy it last night with decrypter, it rip to my hard drive but shrink gave me the same error as u. so i looked on the thread and found to use vobblanker. i used it this morning on the movie. copyed it to another folder and shrink took care of it. i made a perfect copy.it took me about 5 to 10 min. to see how it works, i think i got the hang of it on the first try.

Do you mean you did it like the guide says, without AnyDVD? If so this will confirm that the guide will work for Madagascar.

When I want to entire Dvd, as long as it doesn't require a hugh compression compromise ,then I use Remake Pro, edit the movie (lose the credits) then create a dvd file...then run that file through Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic. If I wan the movie and trying to keep a more movie with less compression I will use shrink or Recode 2 and use the star/stop feature. Works great and I can't wait to pick up Madagascar for my daughter. I'll let you know how the back-up goes.
