I like to copy my DVD with all titles and previews. The only thing I remove are other languages unless those languages are used in the movie. I have the latest versions of AnyDVD and CloneDVD. When I tried them both on Madagascar, I didn?t get the usual layer break message that appears before the files are written to the hard drive. When I tried DVDShrink, the program stopped with a Data error (cyclic redundancy check). My DVD isn?t dirty and has no scratches. How I solved my problem was this: I have two partitions I use for copying movies. I used DVDDecrypter to copy the movie to the first partition. Once that was done, I ran AnyDVD in the background and used CloneDVD in its Clone DVD mode to open those files and write them to the second partition. Clone DVD gave the following message:

00:02:05 Processing Started
00:02:05 Found and corrected IFO format errors
00:02:05 Truncated invalid Title Unit Entries
00:02:05 Successfully removed layer break

The movie plays perfectly.

Well someone else said something similar earlier but I'll second it here.

I used DVD Decrypter v3.5.4.0 and DVD Shrink v3.2 to do this along with Nero Burning Rom 6.6.0.16

All I had to do to get mine to work, full disc and everything, was isoed the entire thing with DVD Decrypter and then loaded the ISO into DVD Shrink and shrunk it then burned the resulting files in Nero to a dvd and it runs fine. Previews, menus and everything, work fine. I mean in fact I'm watching my backup of it on my xbox right now.

Hope that helps some people.

I made a backup(madagascar) using DVD Decriptor on my HDD. When I open DVD Shrink is does not see any files to open to make the shrink. All the files are .vop and not .VOB. How can I change this so DVD Shrink will open the file and allow me to burn the copy. Thanks for the help

Has anyone tried to backup Madagascar or War of the Worlds with 1clickdvd? I have friends who are really high on that program and before I shell out $60 for it I'd like to know it works on new releases. Thanks.

@denn7896, I have perhaps too many progs...one of the programs I had in the beginning was 1 Click, yet I found over time several programs that do a much better job of compression and overall quality is better, even the user inteface...before I would shell out $60.00 for that program I would encourage you to download several other programs to try...a great combo is AnyDvd/ CloneDVD 2 combo...I think you can get both now for $60.00 from www.slysoft.com, In my experience CloneDVD 2, Recode 2 and Intercopy 3 (Some have issues with the lack of consistency with the program...dl, try before you buy) have better quality than 1 Click, I also had Dvd Cloner II, yet these others will just have a better qulaity of copy and easy user interface, and more control over re-authoring (like being able to remove credits and other items.) I still use shrink occassionally which is free and has a much better re-authroing capabilities. Try CloneDVD 2 for a trial and see for yourself. It still goes back to the eye of the beholder. Have a good day my friend.

ArthurA...Try this routine:

The problem you are having is that Sony managed to insert a bat "bit" of data into one of the VOB files that causes Shrink to bomb out. For whatever reason, that bad "bit" does not affect the playback in DVD players. Here's what you need to do:

Go back to Afterdawn and follow any discussion around the program called VOBBlanker and download that program. VOBBlanker will download as a simple zip file that you'll extract into a folder on your PC and will include an executable file.

Once you have VOBBlanker on your PC, you'll want to create a new folder on your PC for the DVD files you are going to "scrub" with VOBBlanker. Open up VOBBlanker and there will be two boxes you'll need to populate...an "Input Folder" box and an "Output Folder" box. Use the browse button of the "Input Folder" to locate the folder where your DVDDecrypted files are located. (Running DVDDecrypter was not a waste of time. VOBBlanker does not remove encoding...it just cleans out the bad bits of data.) Then use the browse button of the "Output" box to locate the new folder where you want to dump the newly scrubbed files.

That's it. Click on the PROCESS button and it will take several minutes. Once completed, you will have two folders that appear to contain identical sets of DVD files. Use DVDShrink on the new folder of ofiles and you should be just fine. You can delete the old (original" folder that had the DVDDecrypter files.

So three steps. 1- Run DVDDecrypter, 2 - Scrub those files using VOBBlanker, 3 - Compress the newly scrubbed DVD files using Shrink.

Let me know how it worked.

I have alwayz come to these forums for all of my back up problems and they always correct my problems. After being completely stumped about Madagascar I came here and different ways were working for other people but not for me. Most methods didn't work for the WHOLE DVD. I wanted to back up the WHOLE dvd, and coffeedog, ur a GENIUS! I had to finally register with this site just to say thankz for your method. Worked PERFECT and EASY! And I have the WHOLE DVD backed up. No problem what so ever! THANX!

Thank you very much for the IFOs! They were most interesting. Here is, what I've found:

1.) "Madagascar" is copy protected with some sort of "bad sector" protection.
2.) The protection looks very different from what we have seen from Sony. I believe, that it is NOT Arccos!
3.) As "Madagascar" is a Universal release, and because Universal and Macrovision are - according to their press releases - "good friends", I believe that this is the very first confirmed DVD which contains.... (drumroll): MacroVision's "RipGuard"!!! (this is just a guess, of course)
The protection the whole community was soooo afraid of! The end of DVD duplication!
4.) I ran the ifos through our deprotection engine, and it found and removed the protection at the beginning of VTS_08_1.VOB.
5.) I have looked through the ifos, but I couldn't find anything else.

My conclusion:
1.) Madagascar R1 (US) is protected with Macrovision "RipGuard". Finally we see a disc with this new protection!
2.) AnyDVD 5.5.3.1 and 5.5.4.1 (maybe even older versions) should identify the disc as "Arccos/Puppetlock" protected and should display the removal of (at least) 1 bad sector protection.
3.) I believe, that AnyDVD has cracked the new "RipGuard" before it was even released. But it might be possible, that there is something else on this disc, which I cannot spot when looking through the ifos. It is hard to find something, when you don't know what you are looking for.
I have ordered the DVD to try it out myself, but it can take a few weeks until I can tell you more. I will keep you informed.

@hooligan7
You got that overlapped I/O because you must have had that ticked off in shrink the first time, and re-install of shrink reverted back to that box being un-ticked. In this thread i found the problem with running DVD43 and DVD Shrink at the same time. I also found that overlapped i/o thing also.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/234568
Just an FYI, i recently re-checked that box, and am not having problems now. Just a heads up for anyone encountering "Overlapped I/O in progress" error.

I may have found a solution for Madagascar using DVD Decrypter & then DVD Shrink for those that are having trouble backing up.

Open Decrypter, in the tool bar, go to the MODE and select ISO Read.
The right side of the dialogue box will look a little different than the regular way Decrypter looks. Click on the DVD --> Harddrive symbol. Remember it's destination.

Once done, now open Shrink and in File, click on Open Disc Image
and look for the name of the movie you get transferred to your harddrive, it should be an ISO file now (the entire disc).

After that you should see the 1:25 hr movie. I was having the same trouble like some of you. Decrypter would put in on the harddrive but after that Shrink couldn't see the Main Movie. This worked out for me.

@ James (Slysoft) I too have a concern about the new encryption I've seen. Sad to say MADAGASCAR is not the worst I've seen. Unlike you I don't know the names of the anticipated encryptions being added to new DVD's being released but I have had the experience of watching ecncryption being transferred to the copy or back up file this type of encryprion is not totally new. Just more prevelent today. This same encryption will not allow you to create a written C:Drive file and will not allow you to compress the DVD's content. I used Nero along with DVD43 to create an ISO image of the DVD I encountered and was done only once before I got an error which kept me from creating an additional copy. This copy that I manage to complete also contained this tricky encryption? Conviction was the movie which for the most part is a direct to DVD B-rated movie. Can Any DVD handle this encryption described
