I'm not having any luck using DVD Decrypter. The only output that I get is VOB files, no AC3 file at all. I'm beginning to think that the audio on this DVD is some other format. Is there any way I can see what audio format was used to create this DVD ?

Thanks, Dick

What do you want to do with the DVD? If you want to burn it, then you do not want the audio separate. The VOB file contains all the video, audio, and sub-title streams inside of it. Just rip in file mode, compress with Shrink if you have to and then burn with Decrypter (ISO write mode) or something like Nero burning ROM.

If you want to separate them (DeMultiplex or DeMux), I recommend using Decrypter in IFO mode. Select the PGC you want to rip and then go to the "stream Processing" tab. Next check the box that reads "enable stream processing". Then right click on one of the files and change File splitting to none. Then right click again and choose "set all - Demux". Now rip and you will have everything separate.

You will get a .ifo file, .txt file, a .VOB file, some .sub files, a .m2v file, and some .AC3 files.

The .txt and .VOB are nothing. The IFO is the same as you get from file mode. The .sub files are subtitle streams, but I am not sure how to use those. Maybe you have to rip those in RAW??? the .m2v is the Video Stream, and the .AC3 will be your audio. You may also get different sounds formats like .wav or .mp2.

Those files are worthless to you unless if you want to re-author the DVD or recompress the video or audio. They will not work well in most Video Players. Media Player Classic is probably the best since it auto opens the associated audio file when ou open the video.

Are you sure you right clicked on the files and selected "set all - Demux"? If you check everything and then rip, it will only process the streams, but not Demux them. Make sure you tell Decrypter to Demux the streams.

Also you can only do 1 PGC at a time. If you go from streams processing to the IFO Tab and click on another PGC, you will lose all entered instructions.

IFO Mode:

Set - All Demux

JaguarGod,
Thanks sooo much, I didn't realize you had to right click the file you want to Demux, I thought checking the box for Demux was all that was necessary. I was unable to find any help files for the pgm. or support. Thanks again.

Can you recommend a freeware pgm. that will convert the AC3 file to mp3 or wav ?

The best free program I know of is Besweet:

http://besweet.notrace.dk/

Make sure you also download Besweet Gui otherwise the program will be totally command line based. If you want to convert AC3 to AC3 or anything else to AC3, I recommend using the Besweet that comes with avi2dvd. It has an updated ac3enc.dll file.
