Nero API version: 6.6.0.8
- not too bad, 6.6.0.18 is latest 6.x version

Recorder: <TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-H552B>Version: HP08
- not sure if i've come across this firmware version for that burner. The standard Samsung firmware is amed TSxx, Gateway OEM firmware is GA04, see here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1911
i wonder if your burner came shipped with a HP PC ?, i wonder if that's what the 'HP' signifies in 'HP08'...
edit- i see you have Compaq in your signature, but do you know if this burner is a HP OEM by any chance ?, just puzzled by the firmware..

- InCD is Nero's horrid 'packet writing software', uninstall Nero then uninstall completely via Nero's Clean Tools, then reinstall Nero WITHOUT installing InCD.

Also, the ATAPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, reload the drivers via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

On those atapi drivers, they are no longer being listed in the new Nero 7, why I do not know. I wonder if you have any info as to what is happening in this regard. Logs posted are showing "atapi detected ?" mine included with no atapi listed under drivers. Program seems to be working fine though, although my advice to others is save your money and stick with Nero 6, am not seeing anything that is worth the update, sorry I spent the money.

@arniebear - cheers for the heads up re Nero 7, must admit i just assumed the 'Existing Drivers' section would still list the atapi drivers so i'll have to be more eagle-eyed in future. i had noticed Nerovision logs don't list atapi in that section either, i think in most versions.

i wonder if it's shoddy testing, or a deliberate feature change. hmmm...

Not sure what it is with the lack of the Atapi drivers, I even reformated my computer twice thinking it was something that was lacking but it is not there. Guess will just have to wait and see what is going on. I think I am going back to 6 and reformating again because there is no clean tool to get it off your comp, and the new junk with their Home and Scout programs is crappy. I liked having the Media Player and now that is a feature that is gone, you just get Showtime to play everything.

The Compaq listed is my laptop. The burn that failed was on my new HP desktop. So the burner is HP OEM. I haven't installed a second drive yet, but will and see what happens. Will also un-install Nero and re-install without INCD. Will let you know what happens. Thanx for your help this far..Oh the other stuff you guys were talking about made my head explode. Just can't understand all that stuff, but I'm trying..Thanx again.

Power calibration error
- Here's a v good start re Power Calibration errors - http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/93406

also, quote from "http://www.nero.com/en/FAQs_Error_Messages.html#9 - "

"9. I get a 'Power calibration error' or 'Calibration area (almost) full' error message. Why?

Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder.

Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC).
This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times.

If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.

Please try the following solutions:

Update the firmware of your recorder. Please check the manufacturer's website for the latest version.
Try another brand of CD-R or CD-RW media.
Try different power connectors, and for recorders, do not share power with other devices. It needs its own power connector. If the error occurs with an external recorder, the power source in the chassis could be the cause. As a test, try to take the recorder out of the external chassis and connect it internal.
Try different configurations, such as taking the CD-ROM to the primary IDE bus as slave and have only the recorder connected to the secondary IDE bus as master.
Send the recorder in for service."
