Let me add my 2 cents:
I burned the Matrix Path of Neo without rebuilding using Nero 6.6. I downloaded an ISO of the file. And I use Sony DVD -Rs. It worked for me on the 1st try and I have SwapMagic 2.0. It seems that burning these games is very sometimey; I don't know why mine worked and others didn't. I haven't heard anyone say this in the list of possible reasons why a back-up fails. But maybe the age/version of the PS2 matters. In my case, I have almost a 3 year old console.

Maybe because the iso you downloaded must of alreaddy been properly rebuilt

okey, i've got a slimline version, bought only 1 week ago. so far i managed to burn the following without one single hickup; DBZ Budokai 3, Devil may cry 2 & 3, burnout 3, prince of persia warrior within, mortal kombat shaolin monks, hulk, tekken 5, splinter cell chaos theory, transformers, star wars 3 and finally king kong.
well i did have problems in the beginning actually with "MTV"'s DVD+R brand. Since I used +R Ritek and Alcohol 120%, its been all good, EXCEPT for Matrix,PON; I've already wasted a few blanks already...
Since rebuilding seems to be the norm when copies start to freeze, I will attempt this method in at least 2 different ways and keep all of youz posted. I will also have to try to burn God of war (7.47 GB) and thank god there's plenty of instructions on how to do that (or how to try at least!)

jesus dude c'mon why is everybody making this so hard.....
EVERYBODY PAY ATTENTION here is how you play the new matrix game without rebuilding,patching,compressing,or whatever it is you have to do blacvk voodo,white magic,.....ok here it goes short simple and will work cuz my 9 year old boy is playing it right this very minute as i type he is playing.........
1.get your game that you bought not borrowed or rented "wink.wink"
2.decrypt it either with dvddecryptor or gamexcopy i used both and both workt fine.
3.i used great quality dvd 8X- from frys electronics .GQ DVD-R 8x
part#4158363 50blanks for 10 bucks.
4.insert your blank disk in your burner
5. click write on dvddecryptor or on gamexcopy click the write from image and select your matrix file make sure if using gamexcopy type the name of the game or it will just be the slu21273 file ...anywho...
6.when finish take the game out place in your ps2 (i use the swapmagic disk my sons have a mod on there's, my cuzin has hdloader and it workt perfect on ALL of them........
7.order pizza get some soda kick back and enter the matriks....

i got it 2 work last week sorry i didnt post my progress i was playing it all week
it was my burning process that i was using the whole time
i tried one i read in a forum and it worked !!!

I almost rented it and copied it, but I don't care about this game one iota. I'm sure it'd work since I have a modchip anyway. Strange game, some work, some don't. Always use DVD-R's over DVD+R's. Use good DVD-R's.

DVD+R = Bit Expensiver than -R, More Quality
DVD-R = Cheaper, More Compatible
I choose More Quality and besides, my ps2 can play dvd+r's
So im lucky :P

Again it depends which version PS2 you have. Newer PS2's work fine with DVD+R's. Older ones don't. I use DVD-R's because my mod guy says they are always better to use with PS2 laser. He's forgotten more about the PS2 then any of us will ever know. So I'll stick with that.

If you have an original you can use DVD Decrypter. The only way to boot a backup of Swap Magic is with a modchip, original copy, or a MC exploit. Basically it's pointless. You'd have to insert your original Swap Magic, then insert your backup of Swap Magic, then your backup game. There really isn't much point in doing that unless you had SM 2.0 and wanted to use it to boot a backup copy of SM 3.6.

Hi i have been bakcing games for sometime now on some cheap warehouse dvds and all the games work fine and load and everything but iam having trouble with path of neo it jams at the loading srceen and i was wondering if any1 else has had this problem and if so how did u get around it??

A lot of people have had problems with this game. Try getting some better media first.

Nope. Crap media is the number one cause of failed backups. That's how it works. It'll seem to work fine with a bunch of games for awhile. Then you'll run into a game like this that won't boot. Then suddenly all those other cheap backups start failing in a couple weeks or months. Not to mention how much unecessary stress you put on your PS2 laser. Cheap media like CMC Magnetics uses crappy dyes which makes it harder for the PS2 to read DVD-R's. So you can try better media or wonder why your backups won't boot.

well i use datalot DVD+R dvds i have backed up games like king kong and shadow of rome and god of war and many more and this is the only one tht i have had 2 fart around with no help

iam not gng 2 go out and buy some expensive high quilty dvds just 2 end off the same. there r post's all over afterdawn saying no matter wht type of dvd they use some ppl still cnt fix the problem

Alright then. Your other option is to rebuild. Good media isn't necessarily expensive. You can pick up a 100 pack of Taiyo Yudens off http://www.supermediastore.com for $41 including shipping. To put that in perspective I saw a 100 pack of Imation (God awful DVD-R's) at Wal-Mart for $46. You can try rebuilding, but I still think the culprit is the cheap DVD-R's. As long as your using cheap DVD's I doubt it'll make any difference. Don't come crying to me when rebuilding doesn't work. I guess it's worth a shot if you're too stubborn to pick up some decent DVD-R's. Good Luck.
10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. Games over 4.38GB's will need rebuilt. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip.

I see. I don't know exactly. I doubt most sites ship to New Zealand. Maybe Sony, Phillips, Maxell, or TDK. The problem with big companies like that is they outsource their DVD's to several different manufacturer's which can be good or bad. If it's CMC Magnetics, it's bad. If it's say Ritek, it's good. In your case I'd look for some Sony DVD-R's. They're probably your best bet in New Zealand, since Sony ships stuff all around the world, I'd guess they wouldn't be too hard to find. DVD+R's are better quality that DVD-R's, but aren't as compatible with most DVD players. Newer PS2's can handle DVD+R's fine. You can booktype DVD+R's so that they are more compatible with most DVD players.
53. Q. What is Booktyping?
A. Booktyping is the ability to burn a DVD+R so it that appears as a pressed DVD-ROM in any DVD-ROM drive it's inserted in. If you booktype DVD+R's, this allows for greater compatibility with most stand alone DVD players, including your PS2. Your burner has to support booktyping (most newer ones do).

I've tried to rebuild PON with DVD Decrypter, Apache & CDDvdGen but Apache gets stuck on 99% and the sizes are bigger than they should anyway. (I've checked the files after ending non-responding Apache on 2 occasions...)
From what I can gather the PAL version of PON & Star Wars B-Front 2 cannot be backed up and / or cannot play on SM ? I guess the best way is to get a mod chip?
