I have a dvd that plays fine on all dvd players, desktops, etc., but won't play on my laptop. The laptop won't even recognize the dvd...it looks but doesn't recognize the dvd, bot other dvd's play fine in the machine. I have tried the problem dvd on other laptops with mixed results. I have checked everything from the region code to the UDH ? reader but could not fix it...From what I can tell others have had similar problems....
Any suggestions would greatly appreciated...

That laptop:
Doesn't like either: Format/MID code of your media/the burn program/or your DVD-RW drive. Many other possibilities as well.

The good news, your other drives play them ok!

What is the brand name and model# of the DVD-RW drive that burned them?

What is the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media?

I'm having trouble understanding that sentence:
The ones that played ok,were these dvds-original or backups?

What dvd programs do you have to: Rip/compress/burn?

This is a case where booktyping,if your burner is capable of it,would come in very handy. The booktyping of the plus format into dvd-rom format fools those drives into playing dvd backups. It also gives you a third format to play around with if you have a dual format burner.

You can also try the opposite format if you can.Test those backups on all your stand alones and pc drives and see how they react to the opposite format.

This is a very common problem.Dvd drives can have a harder time with dvd backups.

Thanks for the quick reply....The sentence that was not clear was that other dvd's play fine on the laptop. The drive is a NEC DVD+RW ND-6100A. I also run Windows XP. The DVD in question was not burned by me. I spoke to the manufacturer and they said that the dvd was not burned but created via a "glass ??" process or something like that. When I look at the files on the dvd on another machine it says that they are Power DVD files.....
Thanks again...
