Hi, all. My first post here.

This guy recently got me a DVD backup of the PAL version of Haunting Ground. I usually get my backups from him and so far I can't complain, they're all burned from his originals on high quality DVD-R media. However, there's something strange with this title. My PS2 is a v7 PAL modded with a DMS3 v.1, by the way, and it usually has no trouble playing anything. One time, he actually got me a backup that froze at the loading screen, and after testing it on a friend's console (with the same mod/specs as mine), I knew it was a problem with the backup. He replaced it for me and it played fine. But, with Haunting Ground, it doesn't seem like a burning related problem, it's more like a glitch:
The opening cutscene only plays the first 10 seconds, jumping to the title screen afterwards. Then the game plays fine (as far as I know), until I reach the second chapter. After that, there's this thin shadow-like line that attaches to the character and to a wall, or the ceiling, it depends, and stays there for at least the next two chapters. It doesn't compromise gameplay, but it's still distracting, not to mention odd. I tried it at my friend's PS2, and the same thing happened. I tried all I remembered, new save files, even starting the game all over, but nothing. And it has nothing to do with the problems you would expect from a bad backup, like long loading times, freezing, stuttering, or failed boots, it seems more like a glitch in the original disc. So I e-mailed the guy, but he confirmed his original plays fine, at least as far as the opening cutscene is concerned. He told me a new backup probably wouldn't be the answer, as this type of problem is usually related to modchip detection/copy protection, and not to a bad burn, so I should just get an original. I found this strange, since I never had this type of problem before, and this is a Capcom game, and I have a few of those...
So, what do you guys think? Can this really be a modchip detection issue, and I should just get the original, or should I try and get a new backup, hoping this problem is just the result of a faulty burn?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance :)

that is odd?
I have never really run into that problem myself that could
not be fixed by reburning it. The chip you have is a bit
outdated so i am not sure if you will start having any problems
with newer games. You may want to check and see if the latest
Toxic flash will work with a DMS3 chip or not, that may fix
it. But a copy, if everything is correct, should play just like an
original. If you have any friends who use Swap Magic you may want
to try it on their system. If it does the same thing then it rules out the fact that it is your chip. Then it is down to either
bad media, a bad copy, or his DVD Burner having issues with
that particular game.
