If you back up a game using Decrypter (ISO Read - ISO Write) and book type to DVD-ROM. Do you still need to have a Chip or a Mod for your PS2 for the game to play/work?

I tried to search on this, and didn't see anthing definitive. Thanks

Yes, you will need something, whether it is a modchip or a bootdisk, such as Swap Magic.

Thank you for the feed back. Is the boot disc the easier route to go?

What kind of PS2 do you have? SLIM or a orginal Fat PS2?
Swap Magic is great for both but depending on what ver you have depends on what you may need like SLIM Tools or a Fliptop to go with the swapmagic discs in order for them to work...

Or if you want to just put a HARD DRIVE in your PS2 (FAT PS2 ONLY) or use a USB HARD DRIVE (SLIM OR FAT) with USB EXTREME and you know someone with a moded ps2 that can make you a memory card exploit you can run games from a Hard Drive and install them to the drive with your computer......

Well if you have a older FAT PS2 & you want to use a hard drive IN your PS2 you need a network adaptor $20-$40 depending on where you find one.. I found someone selling one at a flea market for $10 so I got lucky on that... Circuit City I think I saw them for $20
a Hard Drive bigger the better but if you just want a few games on the drive at a time 20gig will work search FROOGLE.COM saw tigerdirect.com selling a 160GIG Drive for $50

If you know someone who can then run backups and create a Memory card Exploit for you (Boots HDLOADER or HDADAVANCED from the MC instead of a disc) you can check out this site for info and help on that...

But if all that sounds to like it may cost to much $ or time you can always go with a fliptop and swapmagic disc .. Fliptop is very easy to install and software is easy to use...

http://clearxbox.com is where I bought my Fliptop and Swapmagic discs

http://www.swapmagic3.com for more info on swap magic..

If you have a hard drive laying around not being used I'd go with the Hard Drive HDLOADER or HDADVANCE Setup if you can get someone to do a MC Exploit.. It saves on loading times and wear and tear on your laser ... My laser is just went on mine (I have a Fliptop and Swapmagic) but my PS2 is also a ver 4 and like 5 or 6 years old so it was probably bound to go.... So Now I'm using the HDLoader Hard drive setup with a old 20Gig HD I had laying around.. Works great....
I'll be looking into one of the 160gig drives soon :)
