I have been using DVD Decrypter for some time now, but I ran into a snag trying to copy the new ?Bewitched? movie. I can copy all the files except VTS_02_1.VOB. I tried two different DVD disks from the rental store, but it always stops at the same place in the file: 16,648 KB, and then just keeps retrying. I played with the settings some but cranking on them made no change.

Is this a new type of encryption? Any advice greatly appreciated. Here is the log.

I had the same problem with Stealth, until I tried DVDFab Decrypter. Worked like a charm. It's a new ARccOS that Sony's using. There's a PSL file for decrypter that will correct the problem located here http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=57103 but for the time being that site's out of commission. DVDFab can be found here DVDIdle.net/free.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.net/free.htm Give it a shot. Works pretty good.

Leave it to me, I'll get lost soon enough.

I also had the problem with Stealth and Madagascar. I was able to backup Stealth using the directions from DVD Decryptor / ARccOS (you have to download pgcedit.exe and then get around the jumping guy. Rather difficult at first, but the second try was a snap. Madagascar will not work - I keep getting "failed brute force" and so the result will never come together. Anyone know how to get around this?

I am a very new newbie. I am trying to burn the DVD Madagascar. I used DVD Fab Decryptor. Then I went to my DVDShrink 3.2. I got the message:
DVD Shrink encountered an error and connot continue.
Invalid data in file
"C:\documents\DVD\VIDEO_TS\VTS_08_1.VOB"
Overlapped I/O operation is in progress

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

For Madagascar I had to go into settings on DVD Decryptor and under CSS pick the top item (I/O Key Exchange > Brute Force) which went through the process without errors for the first time all day. Then I tried opening in shrink it but still got error. So used the VOB Blank from the DVD Decryptor files, cleaning up the junk, and creating a second folder from which Shrink It would open and operate properly!! I am not sure if you could have burned from the second temp folder, but I went ahead and created new burning folder from Shrink It since that is the route I am familiar with. It didn't need to be shrunk.

Hey thanks StndJgalo, the DVDFab Decryptor grabbed the file just fine. (guess I got too happy with just one app) It seems they put some errors in the main menu navigation. If I try to dvdshrink (3.2) its looking for a vts_02_5.VOB which is not a file on the original disk.

Boy, I enjoy a challenge but this is so over my head. What is the file that holds the list of these files so I can try to edit it?

Thanks!

It's not necessarily in the files. It's the new ARccOS protection Sony's dishing out. They put the same protection on Stealth and Madagascar (both Sony releases). It's the same as before, the pic of the dude jumping in midair, only they repositioned it within the IFO. Without the right PSL (Protected Sector List) file for DVD Decrypter, it doesn't know what to do with it, and usually gives an error in either _08.VOB or _01.VOB. DVDFab has the new PSL's pre-loaded. It's kinda like trying to rip apart and put back together a nuke without the instructions. Like I said, the PSL for DVD Decrypter is out there, it's just hard to get to.

Why was I able to back up stealth and not Madagascar,if they have the same protection?

Madagascar seems to be RipGuard. Nothing seems to officially address this, but AnyDVD seems to work fine and people have gotten it to work with DVD Decrypter with no problems.

If all else fails, Try out using a guide I posted. It is for ARccOS movies, but Ripguard may also be a Structure type protection. Also, look out for cell commands withing chapters other than the first. If there are some, there may be a good chance that those are part of the protection.

http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/255980

The searching for "VTS_02_5.VOB" means that the first few cells in the main movie are still there. DVD Decrypter needs to know not to rip those cells, so either a PSL or following the guide will work.

Also, AnyDVD & DVDFab Decrypter will get past these movies.

The "Invalid Data in VTS_08_1.VOB" means that the protection was removed, but not fixed. Either re-rip with an updated AnyDVD/DVDFab, or fix the IFOs.

Yeah, the guide is a bit much, but it is good if all else fails.

Just a note, I made a couple of updates on which steps are optional and on pointing out that IFOEdit will not automatically overwrite the original VTS when Rebuilding the movie.
