I'm very new to this, this is why i'm in this forum. Please bare with me.

1. I'm wondering if its possible to burn a dual layer DVD to single layer DVD-R? I have an old Sony 4x burner.

2. I need to back up Ong-Bak The Thai Warrior DVD. It's dual layer (7 GB)and its copy protected. Has anybody succesfully copied this to single layer DVD-R? What programs did you use?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks.

How do I find it its DVD9 or not?

I did try DVDShrink and DVDDecrypter... and neither worked because its copy protected.

What do I do?

If its a dual layer its called DVD9, you will need to remove any protection using DVD Decrypter if that doesnt work then try DVD FabDecrypter available for trial at this link.

Haven't done this movie but what problems did shrink and decrypter give you? Any error messages? Both will handle copy protections except for some of the newer ones since they are no longer updated.
Here's some great guides to use on top of the ones gwendolin gave:

Binkie,

Yeah both gave me errors. DVDShrink got stuck in a scene of a tree... I think this is a well known copy protection.

This movie just came out this year.

If you tell us the name of the movie it may help, that way we might be able to steer you to another thread

DVD Shrink Encountered an error and cannot continue.

Failed to read file "E:\*

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

@peruytu
That error with shrink can mean it's either a scratched, smudged or bad press or it can't handle the copy protection. What error did decrypter give? I would also use DVD Fab Decrypter as gwendolin said. If that doesn't work that you probably have a bad press.
Another good program to run in the background is with shrink and decrypter is AnyDVD.

Ok, i've come to the conclusion that this DVD is uncopyable.

It has "enough" scratches on it to make me believe that it's impossible to copy this DVD. (I'm gonna have to beat the crap out of somebody now).

Anyhow, I want to thank Gwen and the binkster for their awsome help! At least something good has come out of this thread, great links to guides and an awsome little gem that I had no idea existed, DVDFab.

Thanks again guys!

There is one more prog you should download and try...free for 21days, ie AnyDVD, have that running whilst you are attempting to complete your task, it will happily run in the background, if these 3 progs dont work then it is the poor condition of your original disk

try something for me will you.
1.Put the disc in the drive
2.right click the drive that the disc is in
3.go to explore the disc
4.copy and paste both the audio_ts/video_ts folders to a section on your hard drive
5.Rename the folder the name of the movie.

Now let me know where or what % it fails at.
Next if you manage to get the data to your hard drive then shrink wont have a problem getting it to disc.

Another option is to use isobuster to recover the disc and DVD Decrypter to get it to disc.

See which option is appropriate for you.
