I have some CDR's (no dvd's) a AVI video clip (type 1 of something or another) and a Desay DS-5701 dvd player.

I want to put the video clip onto the CDR to play on the dvd player.

Should I convert the AVI to SVCD then image it to ISO? If so, does anyone know of a freeware program that can do any of that?

how big is the AVI file.
You need to convert the AVI file to mpeg1 before you burn it to a cdr .Try scoping out TMPGEnc encoder for this project

349mb, why do you ask? Why do I need to convert it to mpeg1 before burining it onto a cdr? Thats not what I've read from other sources.

Whats the difference between ES and system in the TMPG options? Which settings should I use?

you mention a SVCD format (commonly called mpeg1).Unless your machine has the ability to play avi's straight then you will need to convert your AVI to an mpeg1 format before you burn it to disc.

Can you point me in the direction of the material you have been reading!!!!!!

Well I mentioned SVCD to ask if I needed it. I was told on another board that if a dvd player can play DivX it can play AVI.(even if burned to CD) At least I think thats what he was saying. Is it true?

So SVCD amd mpeg1 are the same thing? Well thats important to know..
