I just got my DVD+R's, Taiyo's with the Silver Thermal surface..., I know it sounds a little stupid, but normal Sharpies ok on this surface?

And is it worth it to get those special sharpies (made by sharpie) for writing on discs (dvd's, cd-r's, etc.)?

Does it matter what style top-side surface to get when using sharpies?

??

I don't think it matters as long as it writes smoothly for you. I use a BIC marker. I would buy a special one unless you just want to. The surface you're writing makes no difference. It's more a matter of personal preference, unless you're getting the white printable surface for an inkjet printer.

no need for "special" sharpies...i used multicolored pack (have a wide assortment of colors to choose from) and write directly onto the Taiyo Yuden silver shiny OR silver thermals with NO PROBLEMS at all~ :) you will be just fine w/ the sharpie u have now...

I've got a 100 of those ty g01 thermal printables and sharpies worked out perfect.I also used the cd/dvd markers.
I bought 100 thermal printable instead of inkjet printable, DOH! Oh well, only about $25!

Lots of room to write on them.
