I need help with AVI files.

Hi.
I cannot seem to open any AVI files, and even when I do manage to get them open I can only play sound and no video.
Please can anyone tell me if I need to download a player or something.
I recently downloaded some game trailers so I really want the privelage of actually experiencing video and not only sound.
I have DirectX 9.0, no "DivX" player or drivers etc, Quick Time 5.0 if any of that helps.
Sorry for any technical mistakes i have made lol, I am new lol ;)
