I have bought a second hand Xbox(Modded), the last owner has no idea what Mod Chip is instaled, do I have to take it apart to find out what chip is in there or is the software for backing up games universal..If you know what i mean.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you have a chip get DVD2Xbox
it should work with any chipped system.
It is fast and really easy to copy a game from the original
DVD to the HDD. or a good FTP program will work if you
want to put them on your PC

As I said, Thanks for the help, But have done some preliminary searching for the DVD2XBOX software mentioned and can't find anything to download, found a site that offers some script of it or something like that, way too technical for me.
A final question though, will the named software allow me to make complete dupplicates of the original games or just upload the games to the Hard Drive on th Xbox.
This is obviously all new to me, in fact it's the first XBOX I've owned, been a PS2 fan since the beginning, but friends advised me to take the plunge.
thanks again
P.s.
can i just use Nero to make copies of my games or doesn't it work?

http://teammodders.com/download.php?action=category&cat_id=9 here are some useful downloads.
http://www.xbins.org/ they have DVD2Xbox and about everything else you could want here
DVD2Xbox will take a disc (original or back up-burned ISO)
and copy from the DVD directly to your games folder on the
hard drive where you store them.
If you want to copy it to another DVD then you need to learn
about how to cobbect the xbox to the PC, then you can FTP
aka transfer, the game from the xbox to your PC, use a program like Craxtion4 to make it into an ISO, then burn it to a new DVD
unfortunatly DVD drives are not able to read xbox grames like
they do PS2 games. Once you get the game to your PC and convert it to an ISO you can use any DVD burning program like Nero,
Alcohol 120%, or DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO to a DVD
and make sure you use GOOD QUALITY DVD's
hope that helps you a little, i know it is all confusing, i just
started learning all this about a month ago and my head was
spinning. i am great with PS2 stuff, but back ups are a bit easier
to make for PS2 so all the xbox stuff had me reeling for a liitle.

Steimy,
Thanks again for the informative reply, very very useful. I am starting to wish I had just had my PS2 Chipped instead now, I didn't realise it was such hard work to simply back up a game for the XBOX.
Once again I am really Appreciative of your help.
thanks mate.

yeah, the procces is a bit more involved, but once you do it
a few times it becomes just as easy.
With DVD2Xbox and a large HDD you can do a lot more than you
can with the PS2.
You can copy strait from the original to the HDD and be done.
Or from any disc that you copied an ISO to for that matter.
As far as all the FTP stuff once you learn how to set that up it
is a very usefull tool. you can download trainers, skins, apps,
and other things and just transfer them from the PC to Xbox.
if you need any more help you know where to find me.
