I have a new problem that just started to show up when I burn DVD+RW with my Pioneer A108 and try playing them in my older Sony DVP-S550 player (it will not recognize the disk). It still plays all of my older burned disk (DVD+RW's) from a month ago and older (same media). Just anything new that I burn. I can burn a DVD+R and it plays just fine. Something happened that causes newly burned DVD+RW disks not to play. They work just fine in my JVC player.

Older burns DVD+RW (Sony will play them)
New burns DVD+RW (Sony will not recognize them but JVC will)
New burns DVD+R (Sony will recognize them as well as JVC)

Programs that I tried are:
Nero 7
Alcohol
DVD Shrink

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What's the brand of the rw discs? Also run them thru Nero Toolkit and post back the manufacturer id - that may be your problem. Some players are pickier when it comes to media. Your sony may not like this manufacturer. Make sure your firmware is up to date and your not burning at max speed.

The media is not my problem. I have been using the same brand for 2 years now. I can take an old DVD+RW that will play in the Sony player and burn a new movie on it and it will no longer play.
I recently updated my firmware in my Pioneer A108 but I can't say for sure if that was the change that made a difference. Is there a bit set for Pioneer to make DVD+RW compatible in older players like HP has?

Thanks!

BTW the media is Ritek RiDATA.
But like I said, I can take one that will play and burn a new movie on it and it will no longer play.

Hi Ibanezwiz,

Try to set your pioneer dvd writer to dvd-rom by using DVD Decrypter.
Open dvd decryper click on tools->drive->change book type.

I hope this will help you solve your problem.

Pioneer doesn't support bit setting w/o hacked firmware that I know of.
I couldn't find an a108 model for pioneer (but maybe i missed it) - is pioneer the oem?

I don't see an option for Pioneer or DVD-ROM.
I'm not sure what to do.

hi,

Try to use Nero to do the booksetting.
To change the book type or "bitsetting" using Nero CD-DVD Speed)

01) open up Nero StartSmart
02) click on Nero Toolkit
03) click on Nero CD-DVD Speed
04) click on Extra, Bitsetting
05) now arrow down and change the New Setting to DVD-ROM
06) click on Set, then Close. That's it... easy as smoking..!!

OK I tried Nero and that locked my system up so I had to reboot. Tried it twice. As soon as I clicked on Bitsettings it locked up Nero and my drive. I had to reboot.

My drive is definitely set to book type DVD+RW.

Is there another way to change Pioneer book type?

Thanks!
