Okay I'm really green.

I have a Panasonic DVD Recorder hooked to my TV "etc" I burned a show from my DVR to a DVD+R disc. And what I really want to do is take VHS tapes from my kid's yonger days and make a DVD+R. Then I want to put it on my computer and edit that disc into short little clips. I have Roxio ECD creator 7.

What I'm running into is the DVD+R plays just fine on my computer, but I can't get it copied to my hard drive; so I can edit it and make a cool DVD for their Christmas gift.

What the heck am I doing wrong or what program do I need.

I'm will to buy what ever I need.

Thanks in advance.

@cushman, I have just gone through this process, transferring 9 VHS tapes over to DVD. What I used was a video capture card on my computer, connected up my VCR, hit play on VCR and record on video capture device. The images are captured to Hard Drive in MPEG format and then I used NeroVisionExpress3 to burn to DVD. The video capture device is a Multimedia WinFast 2000XP made by Leadtek. Makes the job so easy.

...................and i believe that actual card will allow you to capture to mpeg2 as well which makes it simple so you dont need to re encode it

@andmerr, sorry forgot the 2 after MPEG, yes it converts to MPEG2...probably the best$50(Aus) I've spent, just chewed through those DVD,s. Hint...if you want to put them onto a DVD RW and then you can run them through NeroRecode2 or DVD Shrink and edit them and when you're happy burn to a non rewritable DVD. TOOOO easy

Phew, thank goodness for that...I've got that little "Mule" working overtime...thanks for that too, however some porn slipped through under the heading of a movie I wanted, got a shock when I played it, my other half had a bit of a chuckle

Ok I'll try again. I burned the DVD's on my Panasonic DVD Recorder that is hooked up to the TV/VCR/DVR. Anyway whatever I make on the recorder plays just fine on that recorder or others, plus my computer(s).

Is there ANY way to put it in my computer and capture it to the hard drive. I've tried everything that I can think of, but it will not capture it with Roxio Easy Media Creator 7. From the point where I capture it then I want to edit it and REBURN it on a DVD.

Does this make sense?

If I get a video capture card and start to capture from a DVD or a VCR won't I fill up my hard drive with the movies? Do I have to stay and make sure to turn off the VCR so the hard drive doesn't fill up? This is all new to me.

Thanks again gang?

I would recommend that you really investigate the software you are going to purchase before you buy.

This application is really good but it has servere draw backs. It will utilise all your system resources to work and if you have other burning apps etc on your pc will conflict with them to the degree that you will accomplish nothing

In answer to one of your questions, once the Video is transferred to HD burn your DVD and then delete from HD at the end of each burn. Yes you will have to stop your VCR at the end of the tape so recording to your HD will stop, I set the alarm on my phone to remind me about 5 mins before. If you delete each time ypur HD will not be swallowed up. Use good DVD medium(Blank Discs), stay away from Memorex
