Hi.
I am trying to make a back-up of my Region 1 DVD; Jeppers Creepers Special Edition. This is a double-sided, dual layer DVD, with 4:3 and 16:9 on one side, and special features on the other.

My problem occured, when I started the back-up. I got this message:

"DVD-Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue.

Copy Protection Error"

What to do?

There should of been some more text after "Copy Protection Error". What was it?

It should have been 1 of these 2:

"Copy protection error - The read failed because the sector is encrypted"

or

"Copy protection error - The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

Also Shrink although a very good program; it hasn't been updated for over a year now, so it needs some support, from programs like DVD43 or AnyDVD.

I know little about DL discs' is it normal to have 4:3 and 16:9 aspects on the same side, or disc?

I think the user is using Nero to burn. He/she should untick (take the check mark out) of the "Enable burning with Nero" for that specific DVD.

Yes it is. Monsters Inc. DVD is one I can name off the top of my head.

Ah well we live and learn :) when they come even further down, in price I'll start playing with them.

cheers.

(edit) having unticked the burn with Nero box, does DVD Decrpter make a better job of burning this disc?

Gringle, perhaps this thread could be of some assistance regarding "Nero" or "DVD Decrypter":

The problem is caused by a bug in Nero.

What happens is, if "enable burning with Nero" is checked in the DVD Shrink preferences, then when you hit Backup, the backup window calls functions inside the Nero DLLs in order to get the list of available burning devices.

What happens inside the Nero DLL is anyone's guess, but on some systems, while scanning for burning devices, it seems to send a command to your DVD-ROM drive which can cause it to error when DVD Shrink subsequently tries to read from it.

This only affects some drives with some versions of Nero, and it was supposed to be fixed in Nero 6.3.0.4, although I don't have any definite feedback on this yet. It's been a real pain for many users because it's not immediately obvious that Nero is the cause of the problem

great answer; and despite my best attempts, this PC of mine; don't work with Nero that well........so I can see where you're coming from.

My reply however; doesn't excuse you, from [and this ain't being cynical] giving a Newbie, an alternative program?

You can still use Nero but, you just have to open up Nero manually. Instead of a "automatic" method DVD Shrink uses.
