Ok - I burned Joe's Apartment (wrote the ISO file to the blank DVD), stuck it in the DVD player, and it played just fine (it would freez for a nanosecond or two every now and then, but that's ok).

Anyway, I was just wondering if it was this easy to burn a PS2 disc? I have a MOD chip in my PS2 so I could play the games I bought in Iraq.

I also understand that PS2 games can only be burned on DVD-R's and not DVD+R/RW ?? This true?

So all I have to do is open DVD Decrypter, read the ISO to my HDD, then burn the ISO to a DVD-R/RW and I could be good to go?

Use a good Media like Sony,Maxell,Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim,TDK.

Burn at 4x on a 8x DVD-R with DVD Decrypter.

After that your good to go.

Yep. The PS2 laser just doesn't handle DVD + or - RW's well.

Hmm,

Why do some people make it sound so complicated? Especially if it can be done in as little as 3 or 4 steps.

Put in original disc

Read the ISO

(Insert blank)

Burn the ISO

Play the backed-up game

Easy enough.

Honestly Losat a lot of people just can't follow directions. 90% of games can be backed up using the method you decribed. Some games need rebuilt, particularly EA sports games, to work right. That's a small percentage of games. Off topic but if you were in Iraq fighting, thank you. I may not be in favor of the war, but I have incredible respect for anybody who's willing to fight under those conditions. If you weren't fighting, disregard my babbling.

(Yes, I was fighting.

I served 12 months in Taji.

Infantry.)

I don't play many sports games, so, I'm fine with the small percentage having to be rebuilt and the such.

Anyway! Thanks for the info guys!

Ok - I just got back from Wal-Mart. I bought some Sony DVD-R's.

I have Silent Hill 2's ISO on my HDD which I'm trying to write. The DVD-R's I bought were a max of 8X speed. So I tried burning at 4X. Here's the log:

DOes you burner support DVD-R's? Burning at 2x is good idea. Usually this error is from cheap media or media that just isn't very compatible with your burner. Google the make and model of your burner and you'll find type of media it works with. Make sure your in DMA mode as well: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

your firmware is well out of date, update it.,use dvd decrypter to chek/find it for you

and have you got the test mode box checked on the main panel of dvd decrypter?

yep - test mode box was checked.

I just flashed my rom drive, so I can burn dual layer discs.

as far as supporting dvd-r's goes, my rom is a DVD +/-R rom, so, I figure it's supposed to support either. Something interesting, I burned the ISO of silent hill 2 to a +R just fine, but it wouldn't burn to a -R...

this blows.

Alrighty, here's the update...

I burned the ISO to the DVD+R - it plays perfectly, but, like in the movie I burned, the CG's freez very slightly now and then, but nothing to be concerned about. The audio and visuals are great, just like a normal game.

Hmm, everything's fine.. Menu's, load screens...

I was under the impression that you couldn't burn games to DVD+R's?

Apparently my burner doesn't burn -R's. And I just bought a 50pack of them... oh well.

Well you can, it's just older model PS2's tend to not have much luck with DVD+R's. It's almost always better to use DVD-R's, but not all time. Newer PS2's tend to be a lot more compatible with DVD+R's. You could try burning at 1x or rebuilding the game. That might eliminate the skips. If it doesn't bother then don't worry about it, I just know personally I can't stand any skips or freezes. If you are interested in rebuilding, use Nero and IsoBuster:
11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949

your burner supports DVD-R,just not the types you have probably,

Off topic- Hursty I have a Matrix Infinity as well. I downloaded the PAL version of Gun and the auto screen fix is amazing, just like an NTSC game. Now I see why you bloaks in the U.K. get modchips for NTSC releases. Cheers.
