I made a copy of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with Anydvd and Recode2. I kept all the menus and extras. Everything copied find atleast I thought. The DVD will not play in my 400 disc DVD changer. The changer recognizes the movie and tries to play the title but it aborts (that is what I think) and the sony logo comes up. I can not get the changer to pull up the movie menu or try to skip chapter. Out of curiosity I tried to play the DVD on my single DVD player and it would not play either. You could see the timer counting up as though it was playing a movie but the tv screen was blank. I let this happen for 2 minutes then I pressed the skip button. The player all of a sudden jumped to the beginning of the movie (intro) and begun playing. I watched the entire movie and looked at extras and there was nothing wrong with the quality of the copy and nothing was missing. I tried a test where I stopped the movie and hit play and it started from the beginning without a hitch. I then turn the DVD player off and ejected the DVD and restarted everything again. The movie would not play until I pressed the skip button on the remote.
I tried playing the copied disc on my computer and it worked fine and when I ran the copied disk through recode2 and Shrink everything was on the disk. I placed the disc back into the sony changer once more and for the life of me I could not get it to play no matter what I tried. For now we watch the movie on the single disc player. This is an incovenience because we can only watch the movie in one room where as the changer sends the single to all tvs throughout the house.
Over the past few days I have tried deleting the extras and keeping only the main title and menu but the movie behaved the same way whether I used recode2 or shrink. I also have tried all of this using two different rental Chocolate Factory DVDs. I have "not" did any of the folowing:
1) use DVD Decrypter or DVDFAB Decrypter instead of AnyDVD
2) tried copying to the hard drive first and then to the disc (don't see how this would make things different)
3) tried copying only the movie without the menus. This probably would work since I think the issues has to due with all the junk that comes at the beginning of the movie. but I want to use this as a last resort because I would like to keep the ability to jump from chapter to chapter if necessary.
4) use different media. I don't think this is the problem since I have use maxell +r for over a year without copy issues and like I said earlier everything is there on the copied disc. My disc are 8X but I only burn at 2X

Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

I had a problem like this with XXX2. But I'm sure I screwed the dvd up using vobblanker (just blanking everything!). I used dvd-rb on chocolate Factory tho.. as I usually do. I checked the forum and people have said DVD Shrink works. That might not help, but If you use movie only, it will retain all the chapter marks. Although of course you would not be able to select them from a menu. i.e. skiping forward and back or just typin the chapter# on your remote will still work.

a few things you could try....

1. make sure your firmware is up to date

2.use different media ,Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim would be my choice, burning at no more than 4x

3. make sure NO other programs are running while your burning the dvd

4. make sure your system is clean as in a disc cleanup and defrag often

5. doing the movie only makes it alot less compressed that helps sometimes on playback

6. try it on a freind or freinds dvd player and see what the playback is like

Yes!!! I was able to fix my problem. I ran the DVD copy version through DVDFAB Decrypter, VobBlanker (default setting) and Recode2. The movie now plays correctly in all of my DVD players. The DVD media came from the same 50 pack of Maxells that I used previously to try and make a good copy of Chocolate Factory. Thanks to all that responded to my message.

I did it with AnyDVD and DVDShrink and burned with decrypter. No problems. Cheers.

Doing Casablanca tonight - I do not expect any issues with this.

didnt have a single problem with this disc, used decrypter to rip it to my hdd clone dvd2 took out the extras and preserved the menu. Then used dvd rebuilder pro on a 3 pass CCE took a shade over 75 mins to renecode excellent copy. Didn't even need to use AnyDVD.

Doofy why did you use all thoses programs to do the movie when CloneDVD 2 does all the encoding ,shrinking, burning etc. so all you really needed was CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD BOOM your done in less than 25 minutes

Personal preference i suppose i just prefer dvd rebuilder to anything else thats the only reason. I purpose built this machine for reencoding and i like the quality that rebuilder gives me this is only my opinion of course and i have tried all the usual shrink, clone, etc and i just think that rebuilder is the one to go for. I simply dont like transcoders i would rather use rebuilder and cce only takes a while longer on this machine and while its doing its stuff i can happily use my other 2 machines

I beleive so although by th etime i took out the extras on this one there wasnt mnuch left to rencode so clone would have probably done as good a job. I think at the end of it all i have never had a prblem doing it this way with any film and if it aint broke it and all that, as they say works for me.
