I have CloneDVD2 as well as ANY DVD....they are up to date with the updates etc....but....whenever I go to make a copy of a DVD movie, either it works on some DVD Players (non computer) and not others, or it does not work at all and has alot of pixels in it..or just plain stops.

And sometimes this happens even if it says 100% in the quality bar.

I am so perplexed...I thought this was be the end all for my DVD collection....

Is there something I am doing wrong? If it helps..I am using COMP USA media, I burn at the slowest speed on my laptop etc...

I would appreciate and all help.

Thank you very much!!

Buy better media. Go over to newegg or supermediastore.com and pick ya up some verbatim datalife plus or tanyo yuden. You will be good. You are explaining exactly what happens when you are using crap media. I know...been through this.:>

I have another question regarding this program CloneDVD2..when the quality bar indicates anything less than 100%..does that mean it will most likely not play in a TV DVD player or is the picture gonna be crappy?

Thank you for your help....

@ny716, It sounds like media, but you should confirm that your stand alone dvd player can play +/ and or - Dvd media. Bitsetting is the ability to change the booktype of DVD+R media to Dvd-Rom which is more likely to play in avariety of players, especially older players. I would burn at 4x (seems to provide the most consistency in not just great burns but also for longevity as well.) Pick up some better media...I would recommend Verbatims, FuJi's and Sony's that are made in Japan because as in my case they code as Taiyo Yudens, which are great media. I also have Taiyo Yuden -R's and they are fantastic...I get them from Supermediastore on line. Now when I have a +R media I will change the booktype to -R. If you are using Nero there is options prior to burning that you can change it...with you using CloneDVD 2 (which I have and like very well) your dvd burner should be set prior to it so that clone dvd 2 will make those adjustments. Quick question: What kind of burner? Exactly how fast do you burn? What are the stand alone players that you currently use? This will help us help you. Thanks in advance and don't worry will get you up and burning successfully.

Also, the bar graph is not a big issue unless you drop significantly in compression, like 65% or less. But remember it depends on the viewing monitor that you use. I have a 16X9 HDTV 55 inch so quality of back-ups are critically important...I use Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic for big time compression, and then Recode 2, CloneDVD 2, and Intervideo Copy 3 when compression is above %80...others have a more conservative % before using Rebuilder Pro. Remember using CloneDVD 2 can offer re-authoring that allows you to uncheck audio streams and even chapters (those that have credits) so that the number of compression will rise as you take things away.

My living room DVD player does play - format...that is all that I use....I have a SONY Vaio Laptop that I use to burn the DVD's and it burns at 1x

My living room DVD player is a JVC, the other one I have is a pretty generic one...

You say -"I use Rebuilder Pro/CCE Basic for big time compression, and then Recode 2,"----I have no clue as to what you are talking about there.....I am one of those people that like doing all this stuff, but unfortunately, I need a step by step to help me out...lol...I am not the smartest when it comes to all this...

Thank you very very much....

No problem.. Everyone at ad learns so much from everyone at ad. CloneDVD 2 is a great choice for a Copy program. Does great even when compression is great...don't worry about the other progs. I have never burned anything at 1x and so I wonder if the issue is a firmware issue. Your firmware perhaps needs to be updated on teh burner in your Vaio. An update could allow the burner to burn a little faster. I'll do some checking for the firmware...I still would not use cheap media. Invest in better media and proper burning I believe will improve your problem significantly.

ny716,
Everyone is right about trying better media and I do agree about the Verbatim. I have used it since DVDXCOPY PLATINUM came out many moons ago and like it better than any other media I have tried. It's reliable and consistant. Have tried Fugi, TDK, HP, and they work well too. Another suggestion to add to the great advice the others have given you, try sticking with 8X or less media. I have eight stand alone DVD players, this is what I've noticed. The higher quality players (usually) aren't as picky and will play just about anything. But some of my other ones will play 8X or less absolutely perfect but won't play the 16X. Something else to think about......
Hope it helps

@ny716, your welcome and glad your enjoying learning...I think that's what draws al of use together at AD...learning and sharing. We would need to know the make or model of the burner...whether laptop or desktop. Like my Sony DRX800-uL is a rebadged liteon and the firmware was for that model. Just let us know and we'll get you some help if needed. Have a good evening.

I use FuJi and Sony (made in Japan and code as Taiyo Yuden) +R that is booktyped to Dvd Rom or -R. I haven't used Phillips, but there is a post that has a media guide in order to know what information there is about your media. You can also use DvdIdentifier...free and gives the info you need.

you need to enter the model of the burner. When you punch up dvd info pro or DVD Decrypter...punch in at rpc1 what it says the make and model of the burner is. :>

While media is critical, I think that your backups not playing on certain stand alone players is a booktyping issue. Here is a link that will explain booktyping and its benefits.

http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=46559

This should help you understand and change the bitset of your DVD+R media.

The determining factor however is if your DVD RW drive supports bitsetting (booktyping).

Post the brand, model, and firmware version of your DVDRW drive please.

Hi MovieDud and everyone...I am getting more confused I think...yikes....I have been using all COMP USA DVD-R media (which I know now are not great) and I have probably about 20 FUJI DVD-R and 400 SONY and Phillips DVD's that I just bought and non-returnable.....

Are these ok to use?

And to even further make myself sound dumb.....how do I find out what DVD Burner I have inside of my SONY PCG-GRT170 laptop?

Thank You Again and Again and Again....

You should be able to identify your burner drive inside of your burning program like nero or DVDdecrypter.

You should see something like this:

It may not be exactly the same, but the system specs should tell you your drives nomanclature.

Does this help?
