I was wondering if any one can tell me why only one of my computers gives me the option for book type settings in nero burning rom??? I have three computers with dvd burners...... my one desktop with the sony dru810 gives me the option to change booktype sttings when I choose recorder before I burn.... my other two do not show this option, any reason why??? one is a laptop with the new external plextor and the other computer is a p4 2.6 desktop with the sony dru530 burner, I am using all verbatim 16x + media in all of them....... I can't figure out why only one computer gives me that option, they all have Nero 7 ultra ed on them...... any input would be greatly appreciated.....

Could be the other DVD drives dosent suport Booktyping. Make sure you have updated all the firmware for your drives.

Thank You very much, hit it right on the nose.... here is what I found from Plextor...................

Does Plextor provide a ?book-setting? utility to work with Plextor DVD recordable drives?

No. Some vendors provide a ?book-setting? or ?bit-setting? utility that changes the identifying code on DVD recordable media to simulate DVD-ROM media. This is done in order to increase the compatibility of recordable media with older DVD players. Current published standards for recordable media do not provide for changing the book type, i.e., DVD+R to DVD-ROM. Because Plextor Corp. is a signatory to these standards, this type of non-standard function is currently not supported in Plextor drives.

@eddiechi, with firmware updates or modified firmware you can flash the drive and make it so it does support booktype changing. I did that with my Nec 3540a.

The sony DRU-500 is not capable of bitsetting. Depending on the model of your plextor there may be a setting in plextools that will enable it to bitset.
