Adding data to DVD-R

I attempted to add files to an open DVD-R project (this is a data disc) in ULead Movie Factory. I'd been told that it's possible to do this with writable DVDs.

The file add seemed to work, but then ULead reported an "init error". When I checked the disc in File Manager, the new files had not been added.

Can I in fact keep a DVD-R project open and continue to add files?

I'm using a Pioneer 16x DVR-A09.
