Yes im a newb but can someone please help me.......
Im not the best with computers so i was wondering how i could make backups of my ps2 games and play them on my ps2 without a mod chip. I looked into the swap magic but im just not sure what to do.... Also how would i burn the games themselves??? Please Help....Thnks ahead of time.....

I just recently got my backups working so I'll help you out a little. Swap magic 3.6 is the most popular way to go. I use it and it seems to work great so far...they say it'll load almost every game. I'd buy that if I were you. Burning games is easier than it sounds. First off, I'm assuming you know you're dealing with DVD's and need a DVD burner. Most often the games are in DVD format, not CD's. A dvd game image file is called an "iso," while a cd game image file is called a "cue." DVD Decrypter is something you're going to need to have. All you need to do when using DVD Decrypter is: put game dvd into drive, then "Iso read" to the computer, then "iso write" the iso. file to the blank dvd. The dvd, aka media you use is VERY important. Read through the threads to see what's best for your ps2. You will need to know what version ps2 you have and do a few trial runs as to what media it will play. To save you some time, a general rule is version 1-3 will only play -R's while the higher ps2 versions may play both/either. There are better descriptions of how to use DVD Decrypter somewhere in this site, that's for you to take the time to find. I hope I helped, good luck!

I would go the Swap Magic route,its cheap and easy,but you will also need a Slide Card or Flip Top to go along with swao magic so you can swap your games without the PS2 knowing it.(I reccomend the Fliptop,its easier and wont damage the PS2)
As for the burning itself,burn on a 8x DVD-R at 4x speed using DVD Decrypter,use only good quality DVD-Rs like Sony,Maxell,Taiyo Yuden,TDK,Verbatim.

You will need Swap Magic AND a Slide Tool or FLip top.
The version 1, 2 and 3 PlayStation 2 all have 10 screws on the bottom of the unit.
SCPH30001 v1 = Serial# begins U1
SCPH30001 v2 = Serial# begins U0
SCPH30001 v3 = Serial# begins U1 Date 1A
SCPH30001 v3 = Serial# begins U2 Date 0D
The version 4, 5, 6 and 7 PlayStation 2 all have 8 screws on the bottom of the unit. The 4 and 5 also have the electrical warning stamped on the bottom of the PlayStation 2 case.
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U0
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U1
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U2
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U3
SCPH 30001 v4 = Serial# begins with U4

SCPH 35001 v4 = GT3 Edition
And about the DVDs,just use good quality ones like Sony,Maxell,Taiyo Yuden,TDK,Verbatim.

Screws are covered with Tabs on the bottom of the Ps2
Is it a FAT PS2 or one of the new SLIM PS2's?

PS2 games are actually pressed DVD/CD discs, they are not burned. PS2 games use the Burst Cutting Area (BCA) of the disc to identify themselves to the PS2 unit. The BCA is not part of a disc that you can burn on, it is only replicated on pressed discs.
So, the only way to play backups is to get boot-discs or a mod-chip.
Use Quality Media I use
Verbatim DVD+R
***** BURN AT NO MORE THAN 4X****** <-----------(IMPORTANT)
TURN OFF ANY BACKGROUND APPLICATIONS
1. Take the ps2 game put it in the dvd rom or dvd burner, your choice.
2. open the dvd decryptor program then go to to tool bar and hit MODE>ISO>READ. Then choose the correct dvd drive that the game is in as the "source". Also choose where you want the files to be stored on the pc hdd. THEN CLICK DECRYPT , or the huge graphical picture at the bottom of the program which makes it run. The game is now copying to your HDD. Take the game out when finished (it might take a while).
3. Go to the same tab in dvd decryptor and choose MODE>ISO>WRITE. This will then let you look for the files you just created in step 2. Select the file that you just created. (There is only 2 files created so pick the .mds) (The smaller file)Then click WRITE, make sure there is blank DVD in the drive.
