I recently replaced the cover of my PS2 with a clear flip top cover. It works great except when I start playing games that use up the whole DVD disk and the laser needs to access the very edge of the DVD. There is a piece of the flip top cover that obstructs the laser from reading the edge of the DVD and causes the motor to jam. I would need to always play with the cover to make it load. Is there a way to fix this or is the only way is to cut the part off? I'm afraid that it might mess up my flip top cover if I do. Any suggestions?

Is this why the ps2 makes a god-aweful noise when trying to boot the game? I'm having trouble with soul cal 3 and darkwatch...both large games. Are you sure this is the problem?

Before you try to remove the part, have you tried to rebuild the game to see if that helps? It will bring down the total size of the game.

xxxtriple you saved me a world of trouble. I don't know how you figured that out...but that is exactly what my ps2 was doing (it wouldn't play soul cal 3 or darkwatchers because they were too large). I have a version 4 ps2. What you need to do is loosen the BACK screws while keeping the front ones relatively tight. This allows the flip top to lift just enough to get out of the way. I can't believe I didn't see it. Something so simple, so easily overlooked. I assumed that the flip top would have been quality...but in fact mine is crap...a hunk of plastic, no more. After the little mod, all the games work now! And I owe it to you for figuring it out for me w/o knowing it. Haha. Thanks man. Let me know if you get it working.

I was having trouble playing Soul Calibur 3 as well, but I was able to fix it by pushing the piece under the lid up and filing down the piece that obstructs the laser lens. I didn't have to loosen the screws, but I'll remember to do so when I mod my friend's PS2. As for rebuilding the game, is that compressing the game so it will be a smaller file? If so, what program does that?

10. Q. What does rebuilding an iso mean?
A. It means that some games 4.36-4.38GB's may need rebuilt to work with Swap Magic. Games over 4.38GB's will need rebuilt. This isn't true for ALL games over 4.38GB's and differs on a game to game basis. There is no need to rebuild games if you have a modchip.

11. Q. How Do I rebuild games?
A. With Nero and Isobuster (works as long as no single file is over 2 GB's): http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/197949
With CD/DVDGen: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/210515

Thanks for the info on rebuilding. I have another question. Is there a list of games that would need to rebuild in order to work with swap magic? That would help me so I won't be wasting DVD-R's.

Not exactly. However the cutoff is around 4.38GB's. This should help:

32. Q. I want to know if I need to rebuild game X to work with Swap Magic, how big is it?
