Just finished backup of Madagascar.

Method used:

Rip with DVD Decrpyter using ISO Read mode

Open the resulting Disk Image in DVD Shrink

Let Shrink analyse the movie

Use Re-author to do main movie only - get rid of all unecessary languages/audio streams etc.

Burn the movie using Nero or similar - easy.

@colw - nice one, i'll bear that in mind then (i very rarely use ISO read, have probably only done it once) in case dvdfab decrypter doesn't play ball..

@creaky

I can't imagine that this would be any more difficult than some of the others. I have not done it yet, but it's on my list. With AnyDVD and shrink it should be a breeze.

I wonder if anglefan doesn't possibly have a corrupt disc.

Like your LG's?
I do like mine.

Cheers.

@9mmruger1

This one was slightly more challenging than any other I have encountered to date (had to use a slightly different method).

While AnyDVD will undoubtedly handle it, my determination is to run with freeware alternatives for as long as possible (have AnyDVD in backup arsenal but have never had cause to install or use it yet).

Fully working copy, with all the extra bits. Used DVD Decrypter (3.5.4.0) IN iso mode, then used shrink to shrink the ISO image, (look under file it says shrink iso image), then Nero to burn. Full copy of disc including everything, plays in a stand alone DVD player...tried numerous other things, this way worked no problems, have posted this on another thread also hope it helps some of you out that are still having trouble

@colw

Thanks for the heads up. What method did you use? I understood that DVDFab 2.9.6.0 would handle this particular movie. I know that I have to do it for my Grandkids before Christmas.

Cheers buddy.

Happy Turkey Day!

Tried DVD FAb. conked out......VOB Blanker, conked out.........DVD CLone worked but only took the movie which i was happy with to start off, but was determined to figure it out. Just do as i said or at least try it.....DVDD to derypt to iso image (brings it out way to big but thats fine), shrink to get it down to single layer size and just set shrink to burn straight away........works fine....

the version that was released yesterday, lol..............just wasnt happy at all..........would not go past VOB6..........i have a multitude of programs that i tried and i also tried everybodies suggestions but the way i described worked 100% watching it now........i also have AnyDVD 5.4.1.1 but just realised it wasnt on.........so decrypter and shrink still can work their magic

@mummybear

I noticed that your AnyDVD is way behind in updates. The current release is 5.5.5.1

Get it at http://www.slysoft.com

It is supposed to be able to handle the Madagascar issue.

lol.........silly me, just checked that is the version i have....updated it also yesterday when i did clone dvd...think the brain may be dead after spending so long on madagascar. I did have that on when i was trying DVDFab and VOB Blanker......then turned it off when i started playing with decrypter and shrink.
If you try taking the files out in decrypter with AnyDVD running in FILE mode, all the files come out but do not burn successfully, that is why i turned it off today just to give it a go. I will try anything...but i really appreciate your thoughfulness in letting me know it was outdated........

Never let a DVD defeat you....you can defeat it...just keep trying.....lol

i did Madagascar effortlessly last night with DVDFab Decrypter 2.9.6.0 (free) then Shrunk with DVD Shrink as normal. what i did do was use my dvd-rom/cd-write combo drive (like io do for most of my ripping); didn't try to rip it on any of my dvd burners as i'd done the movie already but it's always nice to have a couple of optical drives..as if a movie won't play ball on one drive you always have a choice of drives to use..
