In your opinion, what is the best DVD-R for burning.
I guess there's alot of controversy over this question, but I'm making copies of a short movie I shot in HD and I want a high quality media. My camera guy likes "Prism." What do you think of this brand?

Your opinion would be appreciated.

Prism sounds like crap! I wouldn't risk my valuable data on that brand name.

What store lists those prisma?

Burners are like stand alones. Some will burn and play anything, some have a hard time with crappy media. The quality stuff will save you many issues-playback/burning/and maybe later on you want to re-rip those backups for more copies.

You can scan all the Nero burn logs/playback/burning issues all over here and majority of them are a result of poor quality media. The quality control from those lower manufactures are the reason. This low quality stuff needs a reduced target/and/or reduced burn speed and still may not be useable for dvd backups.Data, maybe, but a highly compressed dvd will have more trouble. The cheaper stuff is breaking down quicker.

For the best, Get genuine taiyo yuden from a reputatable site like rima/supermediastore/americal/or meritline.com.

My 2 cents on Crap media!

Verbatim is very good, but cmags are being posted around here.I like local on sale. For the dash format, get the japanese maxells/japanese sony. The spindles made in japan will be: Hitachi on the dash maxells and Taiyo yuden on the dash fujis for the 8x speed.

at least here in the U.S. MOST of the Verbatims are made in taiwan, with the exception of the DL discs which are made in singapore~ :)

yes, the MIT Verbs are good stuff...

i use MAINLY the 8x/16x DVD+R format which code out as MCC003/MCC004 respectively~ naturally booktyped to dvd-rom...good quality media~

i do have a few hundred of the 8x DVD-R format, which code out as MCC02RG20, also very fine media~ :) haven't tried any 16 DVD-R Verbs as i don't like 16x rated media in general, i stick w/ 4x and 8x rated media for the most part~

good luck.

I go along with kivory666 on the verbs that code as Mcc-003 and Mcc-004.

On some of the older 4x vers like data life +4x.These coded as Mcc-002 and Ricohjpn-r01.These were pretty good, but not as good as the 8x and 16x verbs.

The digital movie quality +4x,the ones with the picture of a film spool: These will code as Mcc-002 and are excellent. The dash ones did not work very good in my benq 1620.

Some verbs are made in India, and are said to be very good.

There are some posts of verbatim using C-magnetics on some of their media, UGGH!

SONY 8x DVD-R....Easy to purchase locally (And on sale). Great quality. I'm also impressed that the media lives up to the name brand and not just a name brand trying to sell an average blank disc media product. Just record and press play. Many other disc seem to have to track before initial play. Also just think SONY goes for as much as $79.99 retail (Almost double the price of other disc media) This is for a 100 disc spindle and are normally the most expensive blank disc media you can by locally.

SONY disc media on sale in great buy. The only other blank disc media brand I would say that truly prides their disc media on quality burn is VERBATIM and I say this taking into account quality burn consistentcy, but the type I really like I have to purchase online. SONY's current Circuit City sale is the best way to purchase SONY media value wise $8.99 for 25 blank DVD- or + R media. You do the the math. 8.99 x 8 = $71.92 (Before local taxes) That's 200 High quality blank media disc. Even garbage media sells for more that this for this amount of blnk media. Need I say more. "SONY"

Best media?

Best media are genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim "Advanced Azo", and Maxell (made in japan) -- these are my top 3 choices period. Below is my new 16X Verbatim DVD+R "Advanced Azo" that I recently burned "War Of The Worlds" using 4X speed.

From what it seems, TY discs are pretty much tops. Would buying Sony +R media Made In Japan be the same as genuine TY? Also, I suppose the MIJ Sony would then be even over Verbatim MCC discs?

Yep, whichever is cheapest when on sale!
30 cents each is my top price!

I just had 2 playback coasters with my MCC-004. 2 bad discs in a row,and ok after that area of the spindle. They burned ok,but stand alone wouldn't recognize it/benq 1620 drive wouldn't recognize it/the drive that burned it-benq 1640 wouldn't recognize it,and it froze up my windows so I had to hard shutdown on both those discs.

Ok now! Just a couple of bad apples in the batch!! No Biggie!

The sony and fuji yudens are still my favorite,Mcc-003,Maxell-002-00,Ritek-r03,and then the Mcc-004. Those 2 coasters just knocked them down to fifth place on my BCS poll!

How's it going buddy?

Lol.... that's a good one Doc., I like that comment. Even after I've posted a scanned of my Verbs from Nero which shows PI Failures of only 2 and a 95 Quality score.
