swap magic 3.6 wont load any DVD -R'S

i have a problem with my swap magic, and this problem came when i was in the middle of doing something grrr
it started from yesterday, i was playing FFXII demo on my ps2 i load swap magic as usual and i hear this loud vibrating sound coming from the PS2 i was a bit concerned about it but the backup load fine so i played as useual.
then today, i was trying to sort out matrix path of neo, and i had just burned a fresh DVD -R and turned my PS2 on and put in swap magic then the vibration was still there and i got to the swap magic menu i put the DVD -R in and pressed X and it says "not a valid PS2 disc" hmmm i thorght so i turned the PS2 off and gave it a clean ajusted the slim tools make sure they are in properly in the PS2 and turned it on again same thing "not a valid PS2 disc" i tried other backup games including the FFXII demo i was playing last night and that didnt even load. so now no DVD -R's load at all.
i tried normal games and they load fine, no vibrations, nothing. i did notice something, when i took one of the tools out while swap magic was on it said "TOC size is too big" or something like that.
i am using Maxwell DVD -R's with a slim PS2 V12 does anyone know what the problem is?

Hey there Jalaneme, seems like you are having a similar issue as to what I had come across with my V12, I use a fliptop however.

It is of my experiences and may give you other ideas to try. For me at the moment my PS2 seems picky as to use +Rs not -Rs. Again, this is for me and I recommend atleast trying it but do not promise anything since it seems everyone has something different work for them.
I hope that this may help as I to am newer to this backup process.

very intresting, so you think it's the media i am using? i use maxwell atm my DVD -Rs are about to run out (only have about 5 left), so which media should i use to get rid of this problem? i was even going to get a new PS2 lol. i know that memorex is quite bad media to use. i was thinking of getting philips? and would i need to change the media to + instead of -?

It could be the media, atleast that is a cheap way to determine. If you have some friends with backups on different medias give them a call. Otherwise try to find like a 3 pack of +Rs (if your burner supports DVD+R burning).
Also I do agree about the Memorex being a lower quality brand, however, for now that is what works on my PS2. Once I run out of Memorex I am going to try and get some TDK +Rs (a small pack) for testing out.
I still am wondering why my original TDK -Rs worked fine but do not work now but as long as +Rs work I am happy. As for media though I would say to try and get TDKs since I know off hand others have had good luck and are a higher quality supposedly.
I will look around quick and edit this posting with a quote of what media is good to use from other's points of view.

thanks for the help so far, ok i have a max spending limit of £25.00 no higher. and i need a 100 pack of DVD R's + or - i dont know which ones. i make a list of media that i think i want to get and you tell me if they are good or not.

i dont know if the ridisc will play in the PS2 as they are - mainly looking for +. -_- this is getting confusing, getting mixed reviews for diffrent medias :S
edit: seen the brand dye and it's made from cheap dye. cmc and prodisc =bad.

Well, until you get a better idea of what will or won't work with your ps2 you're better off getting a sample or small packs of DVD+R or DVD-R discs to try them out... it wouldn't be a lot of good to get a 100 pack of something and then find out they won't work with your ps2 would it.
Most people get on fine with DVD-R, although some people with the slimline like your say that theirs prefer DVD+R, why not get a 5 pack of something like verbatim in both + and - to see which ones work best.
When asking about something like dvd formats you're going to get mixed views as everyone's got different hardware and mods etc. All you can do is try stuff to see what works for you.

I don't think that there is a problem with your media. I have had the problems that you have had too. This might sound dumb but it is worth looking at.
1. Make sure that the disk is completely flat. I would snap in the disc and I would get "not a valid disk" errors. If you push down on the disc again, there should be another small snap. Once you get that secong snap in there it should work.
2. Check that switch in the back of the PS2. The one where you had to hold in that button and insert the magic switch. For me, I get a different sound when the switch comes loose. It is hard to see, but the switch can come loose and appear to be in place correctly. Fix that and it should work.
This might be simple things and it might not be your problem but I thought it wasn't something you shouldn't overlook

i have the slim tools not the magic switch, i checked the tool at the back near the hinge but it was firmly in place. did you get the vibrating sound when you load swap magic? i will check again to see if it's not in properly.
edit: OMFG it worked!!! what i did was adjusted the tool near the hinge and then tried it again and it worked you deserve a big GIANT cookie! but now i just ordered some media that is totally diffrent to what i use :S i know i buy the best media. maxwell oh well lets just hope fuji are good as maxwell.... btw i still get vibrations when i load swap magic but backups work again :D. maybe i adjust it some more?
