DMA enabled question?

Hi all,
I already have DMA enabled on my DVD burner, and this A.M. decided to enable DMA on my hard drive (C), will this help speed things up either ripping to my hard drive or burning from my hard drive to a disc? If so..what can I expect in an increase? 10%,30%? or is enabling DMA on a hard drive just a waste of time?

My System;
pent 4, 2.6 ghz., 512 mgs ddr ram, 80 gig harddrive,

Dana,

No it is not a waste of time to enable your DMA settings. As far as percetage goes, nothing is cut and dry, but however long it is taking you to do your ripping now - it will decrease it at least by 50% - actually more than that - when you are running in PIO mode - it may take an hour or longer just to get through the encoding process. When you are in DMA mode - you can usually encode anywhere from 15-30 minutes depending on the movie, your equipment and the software you use.

I hope this answers your question.

And on that note, NOT ENABLING DMA is what will waste your time. So you are on the right track!
